Hi

We (family of 2 adults, 3 children) are spending 2 nights in Hostal Martin in Madrid in August. I have recently found out that some hostals' airconditioning is not very effective. Hostal Martin has airconditioning, but do you think this will be adequate enough? I think our family room is an interior one - will this make it hotter or not as bad?

JO-ANNE, I stayed in a hostal with no airconditioning, just a fan, this proved to be useful at night. As ours was an interior room, it was sheltered from the sun and did not heat up as much as a front room would and you could leave the windows open with the blind drawn. I have always found that if you keep a room darkish it stays cool. The temperatures last week were in the 80s to 90s it was HOT!!!! Smiler

I love spain

Thanks Sue, that's reassuring.

I had wondered about the interior room being hotter because it perhaps didn't get the circulation of air from the central area (what DO you call that 'outside' bit in the middle of hostals etc?) that you would get from the outside rooms. But your explanation makes sense.

Hi Jo-Anne, jer here. Mad-Sue is right, interior rooms that look onto "patios" (that is what that "outside bit" is called) do not heat up as much as exterior rooms, however, the down side is that they get the noise from other neighbors instead of street noise. All in all they tend to be quieter but I am a people watcher and have always preferred exterior rooms and apartments. Any self-respecting hostal will keep things cool however so not to worry. If they have air conditioning it will probably be cool Cool
Have a great trip,
jer...

Hmmmmmmm patio - conjours up a completely different image in my English mind (remember Brookside anyone?)

Anyway, we have no choice of where this room is, it is one of two family rooms and they are both interior ones. I don't mind much about what it's like really, I shall just be so happy to be in Madrid. Big Grin Big Grin

Thanks.
