I've been following the thread on Hostal Playa. Can I have thoughts please, on what is the "best" hostal? I did a search but the posts are rather old!

Usually I stay at Hostal La Plata, which I am very happy with, but since they have redecorated the prices have gone up a bit, it's now 45€ for a single room. I also think it's about time I tried somewhere else!

I need a lift and a private bathroom, and a very short walk from the metro, so any suggestions would be good big grin

Oh!! Did I say!!!!! I'll be in Madrid on 13th, 14th and 15th May!!!!! big grin And again on 27th in the hope that I can come watch some volleyball big grin

hey sue.

my pick is hostal la macarena.

comes up on a search SEARCH search and the info is still valid but the prices may have gone up.

you can call or mail them to get the current rate but it will be may than 45 euros a night.

my mom and her friends stayed at hostal tijcal on calle zaragoza. it was well-priced and they liked it.

saludos,
jer...

I vote for www.hostalsantaisabel.com
It is between the Reina Sofia and Metro Anton Martin, you can also walk in moments to Metro Atocha.
It is your typical cheapo hostel but it was inherited by a young couple (architect and designer), so they have given it a serious infusion of style--though simple.

A single is just 35 euros. Has showers, not bathes. The elevator is the old-fashioned wooden kind with a neat little seat inside. Get a room facing Santa Isabel for a view on some stunning sunsets.

Oh, the owner, his name escapes, studied university in the US, so English is spoken.
