Hi there multimadridians!

I'm looking to help a couple of female American friends who've just arrived in Madrid and are looking for a place to live.

I live in 'the burbs' and don't know of anything more to suggest than the typical copy of 'segundamano'. That's proven to be less than successful for them though, so I'm trying to enlist the help of 'Jer's phenomenal support circle' and see if I can't lend them a hand. Please leave me a post if you have a suggestion. They're looking very generally to stay around the center of Madrid.

I did see Lucy's post and I'm going to pass that on first, but I wanted to open the subject up as well so as to to offer them more possibilities.

Wow, I am honored, you sure have a lot of confidence in my message board my friend, even when it comes to the next to impossible task of apartment finding

You may want to send the ladies over to Don at the Welcome to Madrid Club (www.welcometomadrid.org) for help in finding a pad. DOn is a guy who grew up hewre but then went back to England and is now living in Madrid again and making people feel at home. It is a long story but he helps people find apartments when they join the club. He is a nice guy and seems to really care about helping out newcomers to Madrid.

A nice change of pace from those money hungry companies that fill the "segundamano" paper with ads for apts. only to charge you 30.000 pesetas to show you a list of available ones. Segundamano used to be good for apartments before the agencies started taking it over with loads of ads

Lucy's post at www.multimadrid.com/cgi-bin/jersbbucgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000016 is indeed a winner and surely the room will go fast but keep in mind that it is not in the city center although it is well communicated by metro and busses.
