So it's been a while since I've been back to Madrid and I am excited!! First off, we're arriving in Madrid late at night and immediately flying to San Sebastian the next day. Can anyone recommend an affordable, comfortable (with air!) hotel near the airport? We don't really feel like making the trip into the city since we're there for such a short time. Later on we'll be returning to Madrid and have a chance to reconnect with the city. Thanks in advance for any advice!

hi Kimberly.

to be honest, i am not big on airport hotels. i always prefer to stay in the city since airport hotels are always in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. i do however understand your situation and in your shoes i would also stay at one.

my wife, baby and i were put up for a night at this hotel --> www.auditoriumhotelmadrid.com after our flight was canceled and postponed till the next morning when we were on the runway.

i must say it is a very nice hotel. it is apparently the largest hotel in europe and it is HUGE. the service was good and rooms large, clean and nice.

note: they did not seem to have wifi but they had cabled internet (an rj45 cables) in the room.

caveat: we may have gotten better treatment than the average guest as delta was kissing our asses at the time due to the mechanical failure that prompted them to set the flight back a day.

Thanks Jer! Since we are leaving immediately the next morning it makes sense for us to stay by the airport. I will check this place out!

I've stayed in both the Tryp Diana, and the Melia Barajas. Both with airport transport, both ok hotels and the Diana was cheap and clean. The only problem I did find was that, although airport transfers are available I had to use my mobile to call the transport, once I arrived at the airport.

oh yeah. the meliá barajas also has the advantage of being at the beginning of barajas (the suburb of madrid) so you will have other choices aside from the hotel restaurant if you have time to wander out for dinner.

saludos,
