"the man!"

Hi ToniG, not that I know of off the top of my head. According to my trusty Madrid Calendar at www.multimadrid.com/madrid_calendar/mad_calendar.htm there are no holidays for that week. The closest thing is Carnaval ( click here for the footage) but that is over by very early March (unless someone decided to change the dates this year ). Maybe there is some convention in Madrid that I do not know about. You can go to the Madrid Convention Board website at www.ifema.es to see if maybe something is going on there that may be filling hotel/hostal rooms up. I looked at their 2002 program at www.ifema.es/calendarios/default2002.htm and all I found was a science fair from March 8-10 which I doubt would cause those hotels to fill up. I think it is due to the AMAZINGNESS of Madrid in general and the fact that perhaps many people who cancelled their trips in Sept., Oct., Nov., etc... are now ready to travel again. Saludos, jer...

Hey Ben, well, there is no web. That is why I went to take the photo of the Hostel and get the inside scoop that you see in the posts above from me and others. Saludos, jer...

Hi again, the Cantabrico is mentioned on a few sites but the lack of info on it online is incredible. I actually spoke to the elderly manager at the front desk when I scoped it out and I asked him if they ad anything on the web. He just grumbled a low "no" and I realized that even e-mail would be a stretch for them. So, this thread will have to do for anyone looking for info on the hostel The whole building must be camera shy because believe it or not THIS PHOTO OF MINE is the only one I could find on the www and I just put it up a little while ago. So, either the owners want their hostel to be the best kept secret in Madrid or they are just poor business people. Saludos, jer...

hi all... just felt like i had to put my 2 cents in because i just got home yesterday from Madrid, and we stayed at Hostal Cantbrico! we actually started out staying at Hostal Lopez which is on Calle Huertas... but we switched mid-trip! I'm not the pickiest when it comes to where i stay while i'm traveling, but there were three of us staying in what should have been a single, and we were literally tripping over one another. Also, we only got one set of keys and there were three doors to unlock before you were actually into your room... when there are three people traveling together it's a little awkward - we couldn't split up and go back to the hotel whenever we wanted (luckily we had rented cell phones from Jeremy (there's the plug i owed you!!!) so we could call to coordinate getting into the hotel) anyway... as for Hostal Cantbrico... much better! At Cantbrico you do the whole 'leave your key at the front desk' routine, which i feel works so much better when you're traveling with other people... as was stated earlier in this thread the breakfast is minimal... but i usually just need my coffee in the morning the rooms were definately spacious, the shower always had enough hot water AND pressure for all three of us in the morning and the room was cleaned every morning. We had a 3rd floor room facing out over Calle Cruz yet i was never truly bothered by the noise... then again, it all depends on what time you go to sleep! as for prices, we paid 60 Euros/night, bread and coffee included one last little remark... Jeremy, you quoted me earlier in this thread, w/ a review for what you thought was 'Hostal Madrid' i think that was the title of the thread... but i was actually reviewing Hostal Persal! someone commented that there didn't seem to be an accurate correlation between the price and the place... and though i might be tempted to agree, the staff, service and location are worth the price... if i could have swung it, i would have stayed there instead! hope this helps someone Vieve

Hey Vieve, thanks loads for coming back and letting us know how it was. Hmmmmm... the plug was nice but it is just not the same when it is on my site instead of others I think this thread now contains the most info on the Hostal Cantabrico that exists on the www! Maybe I can sell it to them as a website Sorry for the confusion on your quote I have corrected my "fopar" (SP?) in the appropriate post above. Funny how that ended up being your post, I did not know. "El mundo es un pauelo!" ("small world!" -literally = "The world is a handkerchief" wacky Spaniards!). Saludos & don't be a stranger. We want to hear all about your week here on the other forums as well jer...
