there's loads of short term lets available but finding something that will allow pets is much harder. Basicly just start calling and emailing. Be wary of anyone wanting an upfront non refundable deposit. We lost 300 euros that way. You will have to make a small deposit but that will be only once you've come to an agreement on the place

to clarify, if you do a google search apartments in madrid you find dozens of links. Regarding damage deposit be carefull of sites that demand an upfront deposit the moment you book. We had to switch the dates and then lost the deposit. Better is what we did, we booked the place and then sent down a deposit once the dates were confirmed. I believe that there are links to apartments here as well

Are you bringing your cats with you, or are they coming later? This surely will make a big difference?

idealista.com for apartment searches while the front page is in English for any private ads you need to speak Spanish. I see ads all the time for home relocation services. Check out TBS (link on this site) or www.in-madrid.com or any other of the expat newsletters
