Hello. I came to Madrid 1 week ago and I am in desperate need for some help. I have a job set up but I just need to find an apartment. I am looking in the Goya or Canillas area. Does anyone know of any openings for a 1 bedroom piso around 600 euros? if so...I would REALLY REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks....Holly

Hi Holly, I am living close to goya, (5 mins walking) in the Calle Alcantara. I am moving out on the 1st so I guess that you could come around to have a look at the flat. call me on 637895061.

Hi! Thanks so much for your reply. It´s a nightmare trying to find a place. Is your place a 1 bedroom or studio? It would have to be big enough for 2 people as I am with my boyfriend. I will defintely give you a ring. Thanks again.

Holly

Holly,

You might want to try www.idealista.com a very good website with lots of rental properties listed, you can refine your search by area, number of bedrooms, price etc and quite a few of the adverts have photos in them.

I have just found a nice flat through using that site, you have to sort through the adverts a bit as there are a few agencies advertising on there and they tend to want 1 months rent as an administration fee, so steer clear of those! But there are a lot of private landlords on there and I'm sure you'll find something for your budget, although it will probably have to be nearer Canillas, you won't get a great deal in Goya for 600 Euros these days.

Hope you find somthing.

P.S The website is in English and Spanish.

I spend most of my money on beer and women, the rest I just waste.

hey HollyC, welcome to the board and congrats on your move to madrid cool

i agree with EnglishPilot, in Goya 600€ will not get you much (a small studio at best). would be more lile 800€ for a decent 1 bedroom.

i have never been to hilko's so not sure of what he has there in goya but i know it is big enough for a couple.

let us know how it goes.

saludos,
jer...

Thanks English Pilot and Jer. I actually got in contact with Hilko and went to see it today. It´s perfect...now hopefully noone else got it before I saw it and the price doesn´t rise up too much. I have looked everywhere including those sites you mentioned. I can´t believe how much deposit some people want. Do they think we are money trees? LOL. Thanks for your help!

Holly

Jer,
well, there is 1 person who got there before I did and the janitor already promised them first, so they need to put down the deposit by May 4, if they don´t I am next in line, but I really want his place and can put the deposit down now, but I guess a promise is a promise. I am praying and praying the other person doesn´t put the deposit down though.

hmmmmm... that does not sound very "portero" --> doorman like (that is what he is called here, not janitor) by madrid standards, it is usually take the money and run.

i guess you could say that the place has been "apalabrado" which is when the owner gives his word to hold it for someone, even without seeing any cash.

as far as i'm concerned, money talks, bullshit walks roll eyes so if you show the euros first, it should be yours.

Hi HollyC,

Hope you get the apartment, jers right, wave the money under his nose a few times and let him smell it, surly he will change his mind and give you the apartment instead.

In the case your not lucky, close to Hilko's apartment, on Juan Bravo St. I have an acquaintance that rents a room, and I think it's available starting mid of May. I can send you a PM with the telephone number.

Thanks for all your advice. Before I go to work, I am going to stop by the place I want and try and see if I can change the owner´s mind. I thought it would be whomever puts the money down first and a bit odd that the portero man knew a lot of info. I need to get used to the system here. lol.

Albert, thanks for the offer for the room, but I need a place for 2 people and now since I am staying with a friend´s family. It´s getting a bit uncomfortable.

hehehehe, never underestimate the power (or nosyness) of a portero Holly, they are (in)famous wink for being super nosy and having a hand in everything that goes on in the building they work for.

i personally am glad my building is too small (only 7 apts.) to have a doorman.
