Hi, Im moving to Madrid at the begining of next yaer(2004). I have been to Madrid 2 times and have friends there however I want to try and secure a place to live for six months. I dont care how small or what part of town I just want it to be cheap(under 250 euros). Hablo espanol y parlo italiano and I will be working on my undergrad online as well as making a short film or two with a friend. Well, if anyone can help that would be great and if you just wanna say hi feel free.- Scott

Sorry, just being flippant!! (again) Big Grin

I can't help you with the cheap place to live but if you do a search on this board, there are loads of threads about getting rooms, how to use Segundamano etc. Take a look at http://www.madridinsider.com/ as well.

Hi Scott,
there's an agency called Welcome to Madrid that might be able to help you. They take a small fee for the trouble but they do not rip you off, and they're extremely fast and helpful. We got our flat the same day we contacted them, but then again we might have been extremely lucky! We've had several friends finding both rooms in flats and flats through them.

That's right you have got Don at Welcome to Madrid/Spain, John at Madrid Flatmate and Rafael at Room Madrid, but they all accommodation finding agencies who you pay to help find you housing where as Rocco at www.madridinsider.com gives you free do it yourself advice first http://madridinsider.i8.com/acc/accommodation.htm
and free classifieds http://www.madridinsider.i8.com/resources/classifiedsmain.html
then helps you out by translating and offering a phone calling and appointment setting assistance at a much better price of just 50 euros per person to cover his time and / or phone call money spent.

Hola Scott.

As the others have suggested, I will also say that MadridInsider, Welcome to Madrid, Madrid Flatmate and Room Madrid are all very welcome alternatives to the "Centros de Informacin" that will charge you a small fortune (about 250 Euros Eeker ), give you a list of mostly already rented apts. and then boot ya out the door.

The 4 services/agencies mentioned above all charge a flat fee and considering they all do the same job and have pretty much the same database of flats, I would recommend you go with the least expensive ones.

Since you speak Spanish I would recommend you give the search a go on your own first.

Unfortunately, finding a room from abroad is not easy so you may have to arrive, stay at a hostel for a few days and look hard for a room.

If you can't find your own place and need help, current fees for placing you in a room:

Welcome to Madrid = 50 Euros or 16.66% of the first month's rent.
 Madrid Insider = 50 Euros.
 Madrid Flatmate = 68+ Euros.
Room Madrid = 100 Euros Eeker Eeker Eeker

Like I said, go with the cheapest service since they are all pretty much the same.

Saludos,
jer...
