When you rent an apartment in Madrid, can you require that it is cleaned before you move in? Can the landlord say "take as is, clean yourself, you're not entitled to make these demands"? Whats the standard procedure? Thankoo in advance...

hi Ola.

basically, the landlord can rent it as is if he/she wants to.

you cannot demand they clean it first since they can always tell you to not take it if ya don't like it.

saludos,
jer...

Thanks, good to know. I won't be a stickler then... I'll suggest it but if they say 'no way' I won't throw a fit wink

Moreover, the common practice of painting the place up between rentals definitely not so common.

Many Madrid landlords have told me on more than one occasion that they feel the (inquilino) person renting the flat is the one who should paint or buy any of the things missing (whether it outlasts their stay or not) because the person currenty renting are the ones who will (desfrutarlo) enjoy / derive extreme pleasure from it. nutz
