Can anyone tell me where to buy violet candies? Marc and I bought some near Puerta del Sol, near Calle del Principe. It was the most amazing candy but can't find it anywhere in SF. Is there a mail order place? I checked www.tienda.com but there is nothing there.
I found other violet candies at some of the pastry shops around the Puerta del Sol area in Madrid.
We are going through withdrawal!
Thanks!

As for where to find the violet candies, I am not sure exactly which ones you mean since they have so many types there but I have been know to go out and buy and send stuff to those in Spain withdrawal for a small "donation" to the multimadrid cause.
Yes, that's the one! La Violetta! We bought some boxes and also some small round ones. Not enough and they're gone!
Do they have a website?
Our Sony got mailed to the shop this week. It was just as it was when we last saw you. Wish us luck!!! When it's back, maybe we can email a picture of us to you for posting!

Ah sweet memories of long ago. La Violeta is truly one of the great shops and tastes of Madrid. The next time you go in (and if you can afford it) try to buy the actual candied flowers instead of the little hard candies. They are incredible. I am not really sure they even still make them. They are little sugared violets and were the original candies, I am told. There used to be another La Violeta off Serrano on Villanueva (I think) but I am not sure if it is still there. Here is something I do that is really good: I grind the candies into powder in a Osterizer and then sprinkle it over vanilla ice cream. Then you can just curl up and die. And Jer is right about a website!!!! We are lucky the shop is still open considering the age of the owners!!! Maybe a Violetas.com sale point should be looked into by some enterprising young empresario!!!
