Hi Everyone,

Marc and I noticed another great thing about drinking coffee in Spain - the generous-sized sugar packets! Everywhere we went, they would give you a sugar packet before pouring the delicious cafe. Back home in the States, they skimp on the amount of sugar in each pack that you end up using about 5-6 and wondering if you are a sugar addict. Here it was that one pack. The other cool thing is that every cafeteria has their name and address on each sugar packet!

Anyone else notice this?

Hey Jojo (& Marc), funny, since I never drank coffee in the U.S.A. and started when I moved to Spain (for obvious reasons Big Grin ), I never thought of the difference in the sizes of the sugar packets but you are right.

They are huge here compared to most in the states.

For comparison purposes you can hold an American one up to the "actual size" Spanish one below Cool

Just goes to prove that size DOES count Big Grin (and that I have a lot of free time on my hands if I can scan a sugar packet Eeker )

Saludos,
jer...

Hi Jer!

We even brought a couple back from La Mallorquina. It does not even compare to the tiny sugar packets that we have in the States. Marc was so excited about not having to use 6 sugars for his coffee. Sigh!

JoJo

P.S. I love the scanned sugar pack picture!

Hey all, RE: the stealing of sugar packets here in Spain, the cafs, bars and restaurants actually encourage visitors to take them back to the U.S.A. in order to create "sugar envy" and drum up more tourism Big Grin

It's a conspiracy I tell ya!!! Eeker

Hi Mama Chula!

We only have one Mallorquina sugar packet that Marc swiped from behind the counter. What a perfect sized sugar pack! Sigh! How funny. Where do you live in California? We're in SF but originally from NYC.

Missing Madrid, missing Madrid.

Yeah, Jer I think you are right; it's a conspiracy. All those people heading to Spain are going for the sugar and nothing else. Wink

Alas JoJo, I have only one packet as well. I originally took two but one of them tore open in my purse Eeker - what a mess! I'm from Santa Barbara, a native actually, but get up to the Bay area often to visit my son at Berkeley.

I'm missing Madrid as well, which is why I come to this website often to "visit". Thanks again Jer!! :l:
