Just wanted to share one of my favorite Madrid restaurants with y'all!!

Platero, on Calle Espoz y Mina, off of Puerta del Sol... it's on the right as you walk up the street from Sol, and it's closed on Mondays I believe...

The menu del dia costs about 7 Euros now, and it includes 2 plates, desert, bread, olives, and a beverage (wine, soda, water...)

what's great about this place, is the fact that it's run by 2 people!!! A husband and wife She cooks and he serves... that's it! just the two of them!

I've been to Madrid three times... January '99, January '00, and January '02... and he's always remembered me! (granted the first 2 times were with a university trip and he knew our professor from years past... but still!!) he remembers all of us who've gone there several years in a row... and if you want things a little different... (I prefer my sopa de ajo sin huevo!) they're soooo accommodating...

true, since there's only one waiter, you may wait a smidge longer than in some other restaurants, but the quality of service CAN'T be beat... no one will be more attentive to you!

anyway... the food is great, the service is incredible... and the prices can't be beat!
This has been my first and last dinner spot for every Madrid trip thus far!!!

I went by there today to take a photo for this thread but it was closed at 2pm. Are they only open for dinner? No men� del d�a?

Hey Vieve, long time no hear

Anyway, I finally got by Platero when it was open and I met your waiter/owner (Antonio I think his name was , really nice guy).

Anyway, I told him that you had posted about his retaurant and he allowed me to take a few pics

He said he recalled your visit but I do not know if he was just "yessing" a crazy American with a digital camera in order to get rid of me ASAP or if he really did remember you.

So, here it is:

1) Platero outside (not a very photogenic place from the outside).

2) Platero inside (not to worry, it was only empty because he had just opened up )

Hope it brings back a warm tingly feeling
