Is there such an animal in Madrid? I´ve been listening to my 50´s jazz CDs and it´s given me an urge to listen to torch songs. Or maybe the Panchos´ greatest hits, if that´s the only thing going. In Chicago, some of the hotels and larger restaurants had piano lounges, I think.

Thanks!

How funny you should ask as I just noticed one in the Nuevos Ministerios area a couple of weeks ago. Don't know the street, but it's the same street as C/ Orense about a block or two south of Corte Ingles (I don't think it's still called C/ orense after you cross over that big street that goes from NuevMin to Cuatro Caminos). For certain though Nuevos Ministerios is the closest metro.

I always thought piano bars where where you go to get drunk and sing along to old songs though.

There's one on Cava Baja. The mic has lots of reverb on it, which makes nearly anyone sound like an old crooner. I almost sounded good!

Nanny--
I think you are thinking of Segundo Jazz on Comandante Zorita. They have different line-ups every night, so it's not always piano music, but they might have a piano night.

Coco--
If you are interested in jazz clubs in general, I can give you the run-down (my SO is a jazz bass player). There are quite a few venues and a lot of musicians. Restaurants and hotels don't really do jazz here--except for private functions--it's more full-fledged groups in clubs, bars, festivals, centros culturales, etc.

I know there´s excellent jazz in Madrid, and I´m terrible about getting out to to hear it. I keep meaning to go to Cafe Central.

I´m intrigued by this Cava Baja place. Is there a pianist, or is it more like karioke? Only at weekends? Mostly Spanish?

Thanks and here´s to the lush life.
