Hey mm'ers - I was talking to some Spaniards not too long ago and I was trying to explain to them a great zone I used to go to to get wild. It was a bottom level (one level down from street level - kind of like Orense) and was shaped like an "H". I think there were over 15 - 20 bars in this "H" zone.

Does this sound the Arguelles to anyone?

No "bajos" in Huertas Joyseeee.

Serge is right, it is Moncloa but it is more of a teenie-bopper going out area.

In March I am going to be in Madrid with a group of Highschoolers( 16-17 year olds) and I know they will want to go out ...any suggestions for clubs that will allow 16 year olds in? We will be in Sevilla, Granada and Toledo as well...if anyone has ANY suggestions for evening activites for these kids, I would be VERY grateful! I want to show them a good( but safe!) time...

Hello Marcela, is it a school trip?, I wouldn't like to be in your skin :lo: Big Grin
People under 18 cannot drink alcohol in Spain, so they're not allowed to go in the pubs (they can go only with their parents I think), but there are some discos that have a special hour for these guys and they open from 17:30 or 18:00 to 22:00 or 23:00 without selling any alcohol. They're called light discos. I don't know if there are other dangers for teenagers in places like these.
You can have a look at this site

Hey marcela, great to see you are coming back so soon.

A goood question indeedy.

Well, one that oddly does not show up on that web page that miguelito mentioned is...

"ARENA" (Sala Arena)
 Calle Princesa n1.
 Tel: (+34) 91 547 5711
info@salarena.com
www.salarena.com

Often times when I am in the Plaza de Espaa on business during the week, there are huge lines of DEFINITELY under 18s at "ARENA".

So, they must have a "light" night at least once a week. Judging bt their opening hours on THIS WEB PAGE, I am pretty sure their 7.30-11.30pm on Thursdays is what you are looking for.

Not sure how good they are at answering their e-mial (info@salarena.com) but you could tell them you are bringing over a big group of "younguns" and need to know what nights they have the "light" parties. I am pretty sure if you write them now they will get back to you by March Eeker Wink

You could also call them and ask (see phone # above).

Saludos,
jer...

Sure that the biggest disco in Atocha Capital or Titanic or I don't know how is it called now has something.
I don't know very much about that web visualdisco I just was having fun watching the photos of all those teens in the "turkey age".
By the way, how do you call 'la edad del pavo' in English?

Thanks for your ideas of places I can take them! :ks: I knew there had to be some "light discos" around Madrid...and I will look into the few you guys have suggested. Rebequita...any ideas for Toledo would be appreciated...we start our 10 day trip in Toledo and I think they will have the most energy then. I adore the atmosphere of Toledo at night when the day-trippers are gone, but the teens will probably want "action"...not "atmosphere" Wink

Jer, I am so glad to be coming back to Spain so soon too! This is the trip that was postponed because of the terrorism and the war Frowner so the kids are VERY anxious to be finally going!

I miss Madrid and Spain in particular so much! I have my list of things I want to buy in Spain growing every day...I cannot wait to get back! Smiler

Hey TJGuy, actually, "los bajos de Moncloa" mentioned by sergeholandes above are the "bajos de Argelles" you are remembering.

They are closer to Moncloa than they are to Argelles but you may see them referred to by both names.

They are actually "los bajos de Moncloa", hope this does not start a "Moncloa -vs- Argelles" war :jeje:

The "bajos" are between the following streets...

Andrs Mellado
Fernando el Catlico
Gaztambide
Melndez Valds

MAP HERE (the "bajos" are the 3 strips just where the flashing star is).

Whether in Moncloa or Argelles, they are one and the same.

Saludos,
jer...

Jer' - u saved my mind and r my hero! I know I drank way too much San Miguel while in Spain but not so much that I would completely forget my favorite watering holes. Excellent.....that's what the Yanqui's on the base in Torrejon called that place, Arguelles. We never knew the zones or the barrios by name, just how to drive there. Our cars always seemed to get us back to base on their own accord! Smiler
