Since you kindly took the pic of Lorca in Plaza Santa Ana, I have had it as my background. However, I have heard that he has now gone missing during the works there - have you noticed? Do you think he will come back? Or will he be sited anywhere else?
Does anyone know why this statue is so much smaller than those of everyone else? Perhaps he is going to come back as 'Big Lorca'?

Hey Jo, last I checked he was still there in the midst of all the bulldozers and crains
When I took that shot for the desktops they were already doing work and I had to cut through a fence or two and take the photo crouched down and looking up at Lorca to avoid getting any construction in the shot.
I passed by today but did not pay much attention to whether or not they have moved "Little Lorca" but maybe the construction got too heavy and they had to get him out for a while. Next time I go by I will get the scoop
Lorca is bronze but the second statue, closer to the Reina Victoria hotel, is of Spanish playwrite Caldern de la Barca and that one is living through the construction because it is stone and too damn heavy to move
I do not really see the Lorca statue as smaller than others but maybe you are right. Hmmmmmmm, a great man packed into a little package
And ... talking about "small" statues, what do you think about "El Oso y el Madroo"?. For me was a terribly dissapointment When I was younger and I heard about Madrid people always talked about El Oso y el Madroo statue in Sol and that all the people met there. I thought that it was a huge statue but... the first day I went to Madrid I met my Madrid's friends in Sol, next to the statue and ... I didn't see it!
In fact, I didn't recognize Sol Square because it also was incredibly small and with a huge Statue of a man in a horse (Carlos III) in the middle! I thought that Sol Square was huge and in the middle of it it was a whoppy sculpture with El Oso y el Madroo. What a disappointment!

Here is the quote from someone on madridman.com message board yesterday:
quote:
Looking out my window this morning, it seemed that they're finally making progress and are about to begin the resurfacing. There's still lots of work to be done but it should be all finished by mid-May or the bar owners will sue for lost revenues if they can't set up their terrazas. Meanwhile the statue of Lorca is nowhere to be seen. I wonder will they put him back...
I too didn't see the little tree and bear thingy in Sol the first time I went to Madrid - TINY!!
