I had been to Los Gabrieles here even before it was listed as one of the bsest bars in the world on the Madrid page of the Worlds Best Bars website (whatever that means) and we usually go during the summer nights when they open their ground floor balcony doors and let the music (and people) spill out into the street.
A museum of decorated tiles, it is a great place in the dead center of Madrid with first class drinks and tapas to march.
I had not been in a while until I met Thyglow (board member who is in town) there last night at 10pm.
You see, Los Gabrieles is a place for some good amatuer Flamenco on Tuesday nights at 10:30pm (free entry).
The improvised stage has a few tables around it so if you want one, get there before 10pm. Those who arrive after 10:00pm will stand in the main room, a few areas of which provide for poor views of the stage.
I arrived at 9:50pm and Thyglow at 10:00pm sharp, we grabbed a table, ordered a few glasses of Jerez and talked as we awaited the show.
Although programmed for 10:30pm, the Flamenco did not start until a bit after 11:00pm (excellent by Spanish standards ).
The show was comprised of 2 sets, a brief one and then a longer second set with a half hour (at least) break in between. There was a mix of guitar, canto and 2 beautiful female dancers.
The Show ended at 12:30am and we grabbed a bite to eat and I headed home. A truly good time
Los Gabrieles C/. Echegaray, 17 Madrid Tel.: 91 429 6261 Metro: Sol.
Note: drink prices at Los Gabrieles go up about 50% after 10pm.
There's a new place, Cardamomo, right next door (C/Echegaray, 15) and has flamenco en vivo gratis on Wednesdays....lists the start time as 22:30, but as you point out 23:30 is more like it....best to get there around 22:30 for tables around the temporary stage, though.
It has no where near the flavor of Los Gabrieles, and the drinks are pretty much Cuba Libre sort of stuff....styling was more Flamenco Nuevo with electric key board, electric bass, etc., but the guitarista was terrific....no bailes o cantos.
(Jer: I'm due back late March/ early April....will give you another shout then....let me know when the pancake mix runs out).

In Madrid All Things Are Possible...Except Skiiing Through The Revolving Door At The Ritz
I am looking for a good flamenco venue for a Saturday night..maybe somewhere that does good food as well but this is not essential..I saw this thread and thought I'd revive it to see what peoples opinions were?
Maybe a flamenco venue that is a good "stop off" point on the way to a restaurant??
Over to you ladies and gentlemen,
Best regards from a cold London...
Can't wait to get to hot Madrid!!!

I've sent an e-mail to the other 7 in the party advising them of the options...
In real terms it works out as follows:
Show and Drink 30 Euros
Show, Menu 1, All Drink 70 Euros
In pounds 70 Euros is 50 pounds and for a show, meal and vino for 2 1/2 hours it is slightly pricey but you gotta splash out every now and again!!!
If you really got for it and pick menu 5 then it works out at 60 pounds...still pricey..but what the hell!!! You only get married once...!!!!
Will provide you with a full report, I've also taken down your mobile number and if you would like to meet up with us for a drink and a chat I will call you on Saturday 30th...we'll probably be in Las Cuevas Del Sesamo!!!!
Thanks again for your help,
Mike
