Ok, ok, you all have suffered enough! The pointed tents you see in the Plaza Mayor...
...have nothing to do with the Vuelta Ciclista de Espaa bicycle tour that ends this weekend in Madrid but rather are for a fair to promote the city of Valladolid that will be taking place from Thursday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept 30th.
I was curious....and a bit concerned, as I have my co workers looking for me next Friday, and when I showed them the site, there weren't any tents! However, there were a couple comments about being behind the horse's behind....don't suppose you can do anything about that now, do you?

Hey ToniG, actually, I would not give this apartment up for the world. I love facing the horses but since it is the best view of the entrance to the Plaza from Puerta del Sol and the stage that is set up whenever there is a concert
If your friends look for you on the webcam, just don't wear white pants and shirt and stand in behind the tents, like a white cat in a snow storm
If I remember, Valladolid is west of Madrid a bit. I was wondering if we would regret moving there, if my husband has to drive to Barajas everyday. I ask because of a school they have there, for our 3 kids. Would the traffic be a monster?
He Gail, jer here. Marie66 is so right on the money here, taking even the shortest route at max. allowed speed that commute is just under 2 hours (1hr 55min) so unless you want to get rid of your husband for 4 hours a day I would not consider settling in Valladolid.
Also, the AVE, (Alta Velocedad Espaola or High Speed Spanish Train) - click here for their website - will go to Valladolid by the year 2006 and they are saying the commute will be a 1hr 15 min.
I was just wondering why anyone in their right mind would want to live in Valladolid instead of Madrid ? That had better be one AMAZING school!
Keep in mind that teh commute I mentioned above of just under 2 hours can hit 3 hours if traffic is really bad
Saludos, jer...
p.d. Actually, Valladolid is 181KM Northwest of Madrid.
Hi all, just thought I would clear something up. The tents that you see in the photo at the beginning of this thread were up at the end of September for the Valladolid fair in Madrid but the tents that are up now (mid October) and pictured below...
... are in fact for the "Semana del Corazn" ("Heart Week") health and exercise fair. This is a yearly event and is celebrating its 17th year.
As you can see, the action in the Plaza is nonstop! Can't look away from the PlazaCam for even a minute without missing something.
Thanks for the quick reply. I am confused and until I get a better map of the Madrid suburbs (which is coming in a week) I will not know which town I was asking about. Another town close by is called Alpedrete. I may be misspelling it. So the town I was asking about is obviously not Valladolid but is something else starting with a V. I am taking all suggestions for reasonably priced (meaning nowhere near the cost of Moraleja) areas where there are houses and yards, again remembering that the office is at Barajas. Our commute limit is 30 minutes. If I may be more specific, when I say yard I am talking about 800 or 1000 meters. I know that means out of Madrid a ways but what can I say, we are antisocial. Not really. I need to learn how those instant graemlins work. We are looking for suburb life for the week and Madrid life for the weekend and I know that having a yard for the dogs and trampoline is going to be important for my sanity, because my husband will travel often at the beginning of our life there.
Got me Gail, could be "Vallecas" maybe but that is in the city although not in the center but rather southeast area. Less congested than the city and you may even find your yard . Valladolid is not a town but a pretty major city as Spanish cities go so I am sure it is not what you were thinking of.
As for the jolly instant graemlins, very simple, just click the one you want at lower left when you want it to appear in the post and it will place the code automatically into the message
