Hi Peg! I can easily recomment Stephen Drake-Jones' Wellington Socitie and Welltours, historical tours of old Madrid. I took my first one (not my last though, that's for sure) last October and had the time of my life as did the others.

I've ONLY heard wonderful, glowing accounts of these tours. In fact, even Rick Steves recommends him! YOU won't be sorry. Have fun!

Hi Peg, what a coinkidink! I just got an e-mail from Stephen this morning. I have been meaning to take one of his tours since he discovered multimadrid.com and invited me to go along on that old Madrid walk, I am all a tingle and can't wait to go, just have to choose a day I guess! His tours come HIGHLY reccomended and if they are half as good as I have heard, I would go if I were you. What night are you thinking of taking the walk? Maybe we will be in the same group Smiler .
have fun in Madrid, how could you not!
jer...
p.s. As for the meeting place for Stephen's tours, there is more than one statue in La Puerta del Sol but just about EVERYBODY chooses the staute of "El Oso y el Madroo" as a meeting place so if you are meeting there, here is a picture so you don't get lost . Wink , jejeje.

This sounds like fun. How can I get more info on this walking tour? I didn't see it in this board.

Hey Mer, all you (and anyone else interested)have to do is go to www.wellsoc.org, that is where Stephen has his website and description of the tours as well as instructions on how to join the Wellington Society and sign up for the tours.

Yikers! Thought this was worth mentioning on the Stevooo Drake Jones subject, take it for what it is worth.

Went to Moore's Irish Pub (rare for me since I hardly ever go to those places) just off the Plaza Mayor the other night with an English friend.

We sat at the bar and had a pint, the place was pretty full up with people watching a soccer game between what seemed to be a few English clubs.

I recognized the guy behind me to be Mr. Stephen Drake Jones himself (recognized him from his photo on the Wellington Society website).

We had met before briefly so I proceeded to say hello to him (as basic politeness would require). Before I could get "Hello Stephen" out of my mouth he snapped at me and commanded "Don't talk to me for 4 minutes!" Eeker

I was a bit shocked at his rudeness but figured it was my fault for interrupting an Englishman while watching a football match Roll Eyes

So, I continued talking to my frined over a pint of beer and within a few seconds Stevooooo told me that I was "in his way, between him and his wine". You see he had to move a foot back to reach his red wine which was on the bar next to me.

In the next 4 minutes of the football game he downed 2 glasses of wine Eeker , then up and walked out of the pub without uttering a word Confused

I have to suppose that either I was beneath him or he was piss drunk!

Either way, his tours may be great(?) but he seemed to be a a rude bastard Eeker

Just thought I would let you all know about my interesting experience with Stevie.

Question: Stephen Drake Jones, misuderstood genious Madrid buff or rude obnoxious drunkard?

Inquiring minds want to know

jer...

T`is a good question you ask.
Just to clarify the situation.

Any English football fan would at least give a nod in acknowledgement, also wine is a no-no,complaining about lack of access to it is even worse(bottled bud or pints are the only thing to drink during a match).
This guy IS a wanker.
