hi Tiernalily, a big welcome to the board and congrats on your upcoming trip Big Grin

well, to get the hang of our little spain community, you should do some [search] SEARCHES [search] for the info you need.

Reason being that this board has been around for over 2 years and all of the questions you asked...

quote:
"I would like to know what are the good day time sites to see, eg shopping, eating etc.."..."what are the good nightlife areas dancing, bar hoping etc."
that question is next to impossible to answer here as there is are already hundreds of threads on this info with thousands of posts from people on this board, you will need to look through the forums little by little. i suggest you print out the info you find most interesting and bring the pages with you.

quote:
"can u pls tell me if there is a way i can get an adapter of some sort so that my hairdrier is compatible."
do a [search] SEARCHES [search] on "electronics in spain", "electronics" or even for "hairdryers", you will get good results. read through the threads and you will find your answers and learn a lot more than you might expect.

like many things in life, you get out of this board what you put into it [yin yang] if you spend just an hour a day on this board looking around, you will get a lot out of it and your trip will be a lot more fun.

all the info is here for the taking Cool

don't forget to spend some time on the main part of my website at www.multimadrid.com/hogar.htm , you will find a lot of info and pics of the best monuments and sites in madrid.

saludos,
jer...

Lily, re the hairdryer. You can buy a very nice dual voltage travel hairdryer in the mainland for 14. Hardly seems worth bringing one all the way from the US really. The one I bought even has the adaptor for when I can afford to go to the States!!!!!

And totally off subject, jer, you said you have had this board for over 2 years. When did it actually open? Do I get a prize for so many posts, or does that make me so sad that you have to tell me to cut back on posting :b:

hi Lily, no problem, glad you are finding what you need.

actually, i just did a [search] SEARCH [search] on "inexpensive restaurants" and came up with 2 great threads. if you generalize the search for just "restaurants", you come up with 97 results so the info is there.

quote:
... and shopping also.
well, "shopping" may be too general a term. i did a [search] SEARCH [search] on "shopping" and came up wit 95 resulting threads on everything from food shopping to stationery shopping. there is a ton of info on all types (almost) of shopping, just gott spend the time looking through it.

As for the cell phone thing, also already been thoroughly discussed on this board. a... yep... you guessed it Big Grin ... [search] SEARCH [search] on "cell phones" will do wonders.

you should also separate your questions into the correct forums, better chance of getting advice that way. for example, post the "Hostel Hispano III" question on the ACCOMMODATIONS FORUM.

saludos,
jer...

p.d. you can find the exchange rates in any major newspaper where you live or online at a ton of different websites. i use www.xe.com but you can do a search on google for "exchange rates" or "currency converter".

Hi Lily,
Like Sue said, you can buy a hair dryer for cheap. Just don't brink your curling iron. I tried that and mine started to smoke. My friend was telling me that when she had brought hers, it melted! I brought an adapter with me. It was expensive and made my laptop all hot. Then I went to my local hardware store in Madrid, bought one for 2euros and it worked really well!!! Just remember, whatever you need, you can buy it in Spain! Big Grin
