[ Taking the thread in a slightly different direction] Speaking as a former jazz musician myself, I've been sorely disappointed with the generally poor quality of live ( non-flamenco) music in Madrid. In Kansas City (and many other cities) the musicians don't make any money doing it , but you can find loads of great live music any day of the week. I'd like to see whomever's in charge of the Spanish culture/arts ministry (or whatever they call it) make an investment in these genres as I think it would do a lot to improve Spain's cultural perspectives on European and world-wide levels and maybe, just maybe kill the foul beast that is ' bacalao'-style dance music. :lo: Sorry guys! I'll get back to work now. Just wanted to share my two cents on this 'relative' sub-topic. poseso.... Tony --- English Unlimited... Un ambiente para aprender ingls... Bacalao music is an annoyingly repetitive and musically insulting style of club, dance music that has been popular in the past with teens and 20-something Spaniards. It involves an often industrial sounding, repetitive ' chu-ta, chu-ta, chu-ta, chu-ta' type of sound that's normally annoyingly quick tempoed and played on car stereo systems in the same annoying manner that rap music can be heard coming from a souped up 64 Chevy Impala back where I come from... I'm normally pretty tolerant and open-minded musically, but I take exception with this style of music as it insults the years of music theory & solfge that I studied so religiously in high school and college. poseso....
