Hi, this is way too cool and I just had to share it with you all. In celebration of Madrid being the World Book Capital for 2001, They have plastered the Puerta de Alcal with books. Check it out at -->www.multimadrid.com/feature/alcalabooks.htm. Saludos, jer...
Thanks for the info Jer, I passed the gateway several times and saw the scaffolding covered in what I now know are books.I noticed too that just off the Plaza Puerto del Sol a large book stall had been set up along one wall and people were stopping to look as early 9.30am.
I love spain

Hi Mad-Sue, that's what I'm here for, to keep you up to date on Madrid! Actually, the best time to see the Puerta de Alcal (either in it's CURRENT BOOKED or NORMAL state) is either at sunrise or sunset. The sun produces an AMAZING effect on the monument. I will try to add some pics of the sunset soon as I am way to lazy to get my "culo" (ass) up and over there for sunrise Saludos, jer...
