hi all, we're a group of around 14 couples visiting madrid for new year's eve this year. we plan to arrive on the 28th of dec. and will be in madrid for about a week.
we're in the age group of between 25-30 years and are fun loving, party people. however, since we do not know much about madrid nor do we know anyone there, i was wondering if you would be kind enuff to suggest any places in madrid that would be great on new year's eve. all that we're looking for is a lot of party people in/around our age group and good music at any venue, preferrably not too clustorphobic though.
also, if you could also suggest good places to go and visit in/around madrid, couple of good restaurants, clubs, pubs, beaches, i would appreciate it.
what do people do on new year's eve??? which are the happening places and which places are not to be missed on new year's eve??? where's the party of all parties happening on ny's eve???
useful info. for ppl. travelling to madrid for ny's eve and also for ppl. in madrid who might probably not know of places 2 go 2.
hence, all, pls. share info. with fellow members.
thanks and hope to get as much info. as possible from my fellow friends here.
hey jackster, good question!! i would also love to know where to spend my new year's with my friends!! we are touring too...... hoping to get some good posts here!! HELP GUYS!!
Ok jackster, ashish and anyone else who is wondering what to do in Madrid on New Years Eve.
Forgive me for not posting this on every thread dealing with that special night, I have lost track of many of them so I am answering it here only.
This is my advice, take it for what it is worth.
Most bars/clubs/pubs/restaurants will close their doors to the general public and sell tickets to their New Years bash which consists of you paying a large sum of cash to go in and try to enjoy their open bar in the packed out place which would most surely be shut down if a fire inspector walked in and decided to do an inspection regarding the max. allowed # of bodies. Most places are so packed out that you can not even dance . Ok, the free bar included in the entry price is good but you have to fight to get through the sea of revelers to get a drink so you may spend your entire evening waiting on the drink line.
If that is not for you, here is my suggestion.
If you have never done it before, go to the PUERTA DEL SOL for the downing of one grape with each toll of the clock tower bell before the "ball drops" at midnight. Bring a bottle of "Cava" (Spanish Bubbly) as well as it is a night to celebrate.
Be a bit cautious here and do not bring anything you can not afford to get stolen (or keep it deep in a front pocket). I have seen thieves snag purses and backpacks and just push their victim over and run the best they could through the massive crowd, knocking down whoever they have to to get away. Also, sometimes a few idiots decide to throw their empty bottles up in the air after they kill them off at midnight.
All in all, this is a good time.
After that, you may want to head down to the "Huertas" area near the "Plaza de Santa Ana" where there are more likely to be bars and dance clubs that hare open to anyone. Every storefront is a bar or club so you can try them all. I like to hang out in a few and then by about 3am most of the "private party" clubs and bars I mentioned above are willing to let anyone in (even the likes of me ) and you have your choice. Oersonally I like to hit as many places as I can that night since I hate staying in the same place till 9am when it is time to go home to sleep.
A reliable rumor has it that this New Years Eve (2001-2002), there will be a special party thrown in the Puerta del Sol after midnight to ring in the "Euro" so you will probably want to stick around their for a while.
Puerta del Sol eating 'las doce uvas' - the 12 twelve grapes is the ONLY place to be in Madrid on that special night. If there is anyone out there who does not know about this tradition, let us know and we will explain.
for lovers of churros y chocolate, after 1.00 am luck madrileos find a table at the CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINES in calle San Gines just by the back door of Joy Eslava Discoteque.

Easier said than done getting a table though, the place is PACKED OUT on New Years Eve all night long and you may have to stand 10 deep with the other revelers at the bar and have your chocolate con churros on foot all in all but it is a great experience.
Jejejeje, at the risk of posting twice in a row , it is New Year's Eve day and I have my grapes ready for the PUERTA DEL SOL at midnight and I just wanted to share the moment of anticipation with you all so...
I find it more fun to eat them out of the glass and then pop the "Cava" ("Spanish Champaigne") at the 12th bell toll.
I will dedicate a grape or 2 to my visitors who can not be there tonight
Saludos, jer...
p.d. the only thing I have not yet figured out is how I will shoot a video with my camera, eat the grapes and open the "Cava" all at the same time at midnight
Been a long time since anyone has touched this thread but with the holiday season coming up I wanted to add my cool atmosphere video of the Puerta del Sol on New Year's eve from last year (the big Euro welcoming bash)
New Year's in a public place is depressing, rent a house en la Sierra, stay at home, but be with friends and get WASTED, get to bed early and really celebrate. The 1st. is for beaming, eating, drinking and really bringing in the new year.

If you are referring to the song on the end of the clip, I will have you know that the Ramones, aside from being awesome, have been, are and will always be the idols (intellectual and artistic) of an entire generation of drugged out individuals worldwide
The lyrics to "Uncle ****a" not do it justice in Spanish. There's just something... a je ne sais quoi.. a delicate touch... a refined quality that the song has in English and can't be translated.
Post the English one, you uncle ****a!
