"the man!"

Hi karenanne, that is WEIRD. I wonder myself why it is all shut up. I did not notice it until you mentioned it here. Many other posters have also loved La Solea and will surely be disapointed if they return to see it closed. I will have to do some investigative reporting of my own, jejeje since i live up the street. It may have to do with the fact that the building is very old and it could be falling apart. A closure for that long could only be due to either that or the fact that maybe their booze license is in question. Saludos & stay tuned, jer...

Thanks a lot, Jer. Cannot believe I have stumbled on this website - you will probably never get rid of me now as I LOVE Madrid and try and make it over at least three times a year. Back again for August and am really trying to find an informal, relaxed Flamenco Bar. Loved Jovenes Flamencos but now that's gone too! However, for a really good Flamenco show would recommend Los Carboneras to ANYONE but am still keeping fingers crossed that one day that closed door on Cava Baja will miraculously re-open!

Jo, thanks for replying. Am keeping fingers crossed that something will happen before I come back in August. (Though have even managed to work its closure into my Madrid itinary - have drink at La Chata, walk down road, look at closed door - sigh - cross town to Cardamomo! My geography is awful but is Holmfirth up Yorkshire way?

Hi karenanne! Yes, Holmfirth, home of Compo et al! Just south of Huddersfield. When we were in Madrid last August, La Solea was shut for a few weeks simply because it was August! Like many other places too. Good excuse to branch out and go to other places anyway isn't it? Jo

You're right, although the new place we eventually found has now closed too. (Maybe it's me and I will be banned from all Madrid Bars as a bad omen) Don't think La Solea was closed just because it was August though as they were positive they would be open when I spoke to them end of July. Is there much Flamenco in Holmfirth? (Not a silly question because there's a lot in Birmingham at the moment)

Am really pleased to be able to write that The Solea is open again and has not changed at all! Isn't life great!

Hey guys, La Solea sounds awesome...can someone tell me a little about it? After reading all of your posts, I think it's a must go! Thanks!

Jer, I agree, photo's wouldn't work. Jaimemiguel - yes, you should try and visit when you make it over. (Wow, Columbus! have fond memories of Ohio as I spent a summer there with friends who were at Cleveland State Uni) Kirsty - is very hard to say exactly what it's like as it's different every night but there is always someone singing/playing guitar and if you like flamenco you will love it.
