I have a number of contacts who offer guide services, but most are of the Tapa, Museo, etc. variety.

Can anyone put me in touch with a personal guide to possibly use concerning the Nov. '36 assault of Madrid directed through the Casa de Campo-University City? There are many websites referencing research on the topic which I've devoured over the years, but I would like to meet someone who can actually point out the site of the former Model Prison, where coffee was kept for General Mola on Gran Via, etc.

What I am looking for is a bit more detailed than most tour companies offer.

Hey, whilst roming around north of Plaza Espanol I can buy the perfumes suggested by board members, and actually try one of those cardboard sampling things Booklady recommended.

Hello, it's very difficult what you're asking for.
There is a program of the council to know Madrid with lots of visits. They will organize a visit to the Casa de Campo, I don't know how deeply they will talk about the Guerra Civil.

visit : By bus
meeting point: Pza. de Oriente, bus parking
Dates:
mornings: 27 June 2004
afternoons: 3 December 2003 - 23 March 2004
Time: A las 10,30 horas (Visitas de maana) A las 16 horas (Visitas de tarde)
Price:6

There is another visist to Parque del Oeste where there are 2 bunkers of the war. But there's not one about the war, I think they should do one, it looks interesting.

Great info miguelito!!!

Thyglow, I am afraid most of the above-mentioned tours will leave you unsatisfied as you seem to need a seriously in-depth tour and the ones run by the town hall here are not Frowner

Ok, it won't be what you need Thyglow but COMING SUMMER 2004 TO A MADRID NEAR YOU ---> www.madridwalks.com Big Grin Cool  (shameless self-plug Wink )

Saludos,
jer...

This is all useful info, though......thanks.

The whole study is similar to a jigsaw puzzle, so even small, previously unlearned things can help with the larger picture.

My main reference source now is through buying obscure, out-of-print books (mostly by former Int. Brigade members) on the internet, gleaning names and locations, and updating them through current maps and those neat websites that have photos of most any address you key in.

(IE, I finally figured out the old Montana Barracks was where the Temple Abod now stands, and Chicote's was, well, where Chicote's still is).

Hey, you never know what I might find under Oskar's.

Hey Thyglow, the problem with finding a tour (or even a private guide) for the type of info you are into is that most tours and guides are set up for the "masses" (more financially rewarding) and not for the one person in a million who would want a seriously off the beaten path type tour like yours.

I doubt this will change.

You are right, probably better off guiding yourself with those books in hand.

Saludos,
