I had so much fun dancing today at Space of Sound that I broke a tooth! Actually I don't think they are related in the least, but suddenly part of my tooth was gone Confused so I'll be calling up your dentist Jer to see if they can help. I'll let the board know if they can fix that or if they send me elsewhere.

I have a question. I wrote down the 2 dentists that were recommended here and I wanted to know if people still go there and if so, would anyone know how much just a cleaning would cost?

Thanks

hi Holly.

not sure what the breakdown was way back when i went but the cleaning alone would probably be about 40 euros.

i posted the info on the clinic on page 1 of this thread, you should call and ask what a cleaning costs.

i have not been back to a dentist since that last one and YES, it is time for ena and i to go back. we will go back to the one i posted on in about 2 weeks.

saludos,
jer...

Hi Jer,
thanks for the information. I will just call and ask for a price breakdown. I like getting my teeth cleaned so I am glad to hear that prices are not ridiculosly high like in the US. Thanks.

In case anyone just wants a list to call around and check the prices, etc.
Here is a list of Dentists / Orthodontists in Madrid or you can look them up alphabetically at www.spaindirectory.org

Hi there guys!

I have a good dentist tip also! Carlos, my Spanish husband, has been going to a Spanish clinic but was not so satisfied. Sam and I have gone at home (Chicago suburbs) every summer. However, the prices were shocking! Last summer, our dentist charged me over 400$ for two cleanings, xrays, and a floride treatment for Sam. We didn't have any "real" work done as no need!!!

So, we've been looking around. We looked at various dental insurance programs: Mapfre, Sanitas, Asisa, Caja Madrid. The best, for us, was Caja Madrid!!! This is how it works: you pay 50 euros per person. This includes: check-ups, an annual cleaning, X-rays, floride treatments for adults. All work is at an annually published price...basically a 30-40% discount to listed prices. Everything is free for kids...sealing teeth, fillings, etc. until age 12. (I guess they count on lots of them later having braces where prices are also fixed).

Anyway, Carlos has already had his cleaning and check-up and liked it. Sam and I must go soon, so I'll let you know.

The list of dentists is long, but you must pick from the book. Jer - check with any Caja Madrid and you can see if your dentist is included and prices are even lower!

I'll post more if anything to add after our check-ups. To start with: 150 euros per year for basic cleanings and check ups for three (and any possible fillings for Sam) vs. 400 for just two people and just check-ups and cleanings.

Okay, I just read through all the information on the Dentists thread and appreciate all the input. Y'all are a great resource!

I'm wondering, however, if anyone has gone to an orthodontist yet. As that is my main focus right now. I read the info about the Caja Madrid plan but was hoping for more "real world experience" advice. Also, there is no mention whether or not you need to be a legal resident, show papers or just walk in with Euros in hand, or better - a credit card.

Looking for that "perfect smile" big grin big grin ,
jar

PS -
Sorry about the new thread thing, jer. I had done a search under "orthodontist" but nothing came up, really!

hey jar.

the clinic i mention on the first page of this thread...

Clinica Dental Villar
General Ricardos, 178
Phone #s:
91 525 45 00
91 525 50 96
Metro: "Oporto" (line #5)

... is a full service clinic and i think they even have orthodoncy, call them to be sure. if they do not have orthodontists, they can surely refer you to one.

if you want an english speaking one (i remember you are still working on your spanish), i found this ad in one of the expat mags here...

quote:

Dr. Eric Le Beller
Odontologo
Postgraduate Prosthodontist
Tufts University, Boston, USA
Avenida de los Madroños, 49C
28043 Madrid
Tel.: 91 300 46 48

he is a dental surgeon but you should call him, maybe he can recommend an orthodontist.

as for the caja madrid plan, you should go to caja madrid and ask if you have to have residency but since it is a private health plan, odds are you do not.

no probs. on the repeated thread but since the title was "Dentists and Orthodontists", i just guessed you would have done a search for both.

saludos,
jer...
