hello! just checking in to see if anyone has recently gone to the dentist that Jer recommended, and if they are still recommendable
prices still reasonable? service still high quality?
also, what are the exact words you'd use with the dentist for a consultation, an evaluation, and a cleaning? I am thinking the terms might be a little different from the exact translations...
I heartily second Jer's recommendation. I went to them a long time ago and liked their service (they actually cleaned my teeth!) and prices. I went elsewhere later because they were a bit out of the way, but I didn't like anyone else as much. For some reason most dentists here tell me my teeth don't need cleaning, which is ridiculous. So I went back to the originals and will keep going back. Definitely worth the metro ride to Oporto. Thanks Jer!!
thanks you guys! i will certainly go to one of your two recommendations and post back afterward. however, it will not be for 6 months b/c i am going for my final dentist visit in the States tomorrow!
You might want to wait a year. I know, crazy, right? They LAUGH at Americans here and how "obsessive" we apparently are about our teeth. Don't be surprised if you go in 6 months and they just send you away saying your teeth look beautiful.
However, I do recall Jer's dentist doing a "1/2 cleaning" for me...and telling me not to come back for a long time. During the next year, I was refused a cleaning twice by other dentists ("You don't need it!") and then finally went back to Jer's where they did another 1/2 cleaning. Prepare yourself for a change in perspective.
i'll do my best to convince them, Juliette. When i lived in spain before, i think they probably only did a "1/2 cleaning" and then by the time i came back here and went to the dentist again, i found out i had two cavities.
oh man, i think my lucky star just went out. Just after i send my last message, my dentist's office called to say they no longer are taking my insurance. and i had an appointment for tomorrow morning! Called my insurance and they said my old employer had taken me off the plan (should not have been done till end of month). called old employer, who called back insurance. long story short, the office is closed for technical problems and/or family emergency and/or they also don't take my insurance any more. much confusion, and doubtful it will be settled in the four working days i have left here in Miami. grrr. looks like i may be making a visit to a madrid dentist soon afterall...
An updating.. I had a terrible toothache. I called Jer's recommendation "Clinica Dental Villar" They made me an appointment right away. I had a panoramic Xrays, a check up, The Dr, prescribe me antibiotics and anti-inflammation. And the toal was ...27 euros Only the cost of the Xreys. Nava
Age is a matter of mind, if you don't mind it doesn't matter.

Jer-so would your current recommendation be the Clinica Dental Villar you list on the first page of the thread or the Clinica Dental on Calle Correo? Also-with regard to white vs metal fillings-I have been getting the white ones for years, only to have a dentist a couple of years ago tell me that the metal ones are really preferable because they LAST, whereas the while ones break down after a number of years and have to be replaced.....
azucar!

I second Jer's clinica Villar recommendation; I've shopped around and tried others cuz I wanted to find someone closer to home...but they were and are the best (most won't do a real cleaning, and one other dentist even *lied* about finding cavities in my teeth!), so now I go only to them!
it may be worth it to just go to clínica villar and pay the 30 euros if it is a checkup and cleaning or filling.
sanitas dental is cheap, i think it comes to like 6 euros a month, right? great to have anyway for emergencies and such but the truth is that for the once (better twice, i know) a year i go to the dentist, i figured i would just pay cash.
if you go to a dentist on the sanitas plan and if it is good, please recommend it here.
