Yes Jer, Sanitas plan comes to just about 6 euros a month. The only reason I got it is that my organization is covering health insurance costs for me (at least for now!). Or else I would have just paid the money to go to the dentist you recommended.
I already went last month for a checkup. It was shockingly (frighteningly?) fast, and this Friday I am going back for a cleaning. They couldn´t do them both last month, as the person was on vacation. Uy. There was nothing special or worthy of praise about the place. It was a main Sanitas center.
At least when I finally meet everyone I´ll have nice pearly whites To go with my freshly manicured nails, of course.
I went to Sanitas Milenium Dental Centro on C/Isaac Peral 4. Metro Moncloa. My dentist was Dr. Zarandieta (or something like that). That center has a few dentists that work there, I think.
Today´s cleaning left me equally perplexed. The girl used that pick thing to get the plaque off my teeth, but there was no polishing or whatever else my dentists back in the US used to also do.
My coworker really likes her dentist and she is going to get me the name to see if she´s on the Sanitas network.
If anyone out there knows of a good dentist on the Sanitas network, tell us please!
Hi, I'll put it my two teeth's worth also. It took me 11 years to finally get a Spanish dental plan. We all (Carlos, Sam and I) are on the Mapfre/Caja Madrid dental plan. So far, a great deal and seem to do a pretty good job.
It costs about 60 euros per year. This price includes: one full cleaning every year, all check ups, x-rays, etc. All work on teeth is at prices that are around 50% of the normal free market prices. The best deal is for kids; everything (sealants, fillings, etc.) except braces are totally free (included in the yearly fee) until age 12.
You can get full info. on the policy at any Caja Madrid or Mapfre office. We are using the Centro Maestranza (in Pacifico as that's near our place). Its a big medical center (seems to take Asisa, maybe Sanitas too), so its a little bit impersonal for the check-in part, etc. However, the dentists (especially the pediatric dentist) and hygenists are nice. The cleaning includes polishing (still not as into "hand-holding" as American dentists, but my US one got really overboard on prices - he was charging 200$ for 2 cleanings and 2 check-ups three years ago!)
Happy cleanings,
Val

Not sure if they are still doing it, but last year VitalDent (at least the one on Gran Via, down towards Plaza Espana) was offering a free consultation, examination and cleaning.
Of course they happen to find all sorts of things that need doing to your teeth, but you are under no obligation, and can just enjoy your free cleaning and then leave.
If you just want your teeth cleaned, and enjoy getting things for free, I recommend giving them a call to see if they still offer this service. The cleaning was less than thorough, and they weren't too generous with the after-clean polishing, but it was enough to keep me going till I went back to my awesome dentist in Oz.
I LOVE my dentist! And he has playstation in the waiting room!! I found him to be VERY up to American standards, not at all like some of the horror stories I had heard here, and it was a proper cleaning when I went.

It's covered on the Sanitas plan as well.
