Hey, I've done the search and even checked out other sites...but what I really need is a little personal recomendation.
I have Sanitas and even though they've sent me a handy blue book the size of a boot, I can't seem to find a doctor.
I randomly choose a name, make an appointment, shuffle off, am told after 30 seconds of questioning to take this or that and then they swipe my card in the charge machine.
It is very frustrating as my symptoms just aren't getting any better..(sore throat, chronic cough, achy sinuses, ear ringing)....is that TMI???
Anyway, does anyone out in mm landia know a good, reliable doctor who takes Sanitas? I mean personally, please don't send me another list.
Let me know because I am on the point of just flying home to see my family doctor and well that would mean 700 euros that I could better be spending on shoes.
Thanks, Candela

Even though you specified no lists, the US embassy does have a shorter list of doctors that they recommend if you can not find any personal recommendations.
I personally just try to stay away from most of the free clinics and health centers here because I feel I will just be coming in contact with all tons of sick people with viruses and illnesses from all over the world. I mean have you seen some of the disgusting people who show up at these free places lately? Spain aint like it used to be.
Good luck in your search.

Candy I've had the same exact experience than you. It seems that you have to wait one hour for them to see you for 5 minutes and act like you are a moron for going to see them.
Anyway, do you smoke? If so, all those symptoms except for the ringing ears are to be expected. Also with the dry climate and cold weather, the achy sinuses is just something we all have to live with here in Madrid.
Regarding your ringing ear, go directly to an "Otorrino Laringologo" maybe instead of a family doctor. Oh, and stop going to loud night clubs so much!!!
Good luck.
I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

Fab...all the doctors ask if I smoke and I have to assure them I don't...well, passively sure...but not actively at all.
As for giving up techno sundays at space...no way..but maybe i can find some fashionable ear plugs.
Nava...thanks for the Unidad info. I went last year pre-Sanitas and they were fine..despite the hour and a half wait, but they chg 90 a visit and don't take Sanitas!
Castiza...I think you have given me the info I need...I will call your doctor, sounds promising.
Oh...and if any of you have Sanitas or are thinking of it, my agent David Harris is the bomb! He sent me a list of allergists to try out.
MadridInsider...are you really so racist or are you just trying to be funny again?? Wait, don't reply to that. Thanks for your effort though.

Rocco, TRYING to be funny? Naaaah... Rocco is a comic genius, the way he effortless managed to get his "FART" joke into about three different threads and has managed to be rude about women, sick foreigners and musicians without even trying. jer, we need a "hats off to the man" graemlin.
La Gripe, I fully sympathise with anyone who has got it, I am in London right now sorting out some stuff, and I picked it up comimg into the coutry, and it hit me hard on sunday evening, and I'm still feeling a bit run down, but starting to come through it now. I always hit the vitamin 'C' big time when I get a dose, minimum 4/6 grams per 24 hours, and Zinc especially, 100mg's that's 4 x 25 mgs, one in the morning, another at midday, in the early evening, and one just before going to bed, and 2 x 1200 mg high strength Garlic tablets, (Oderless ones), 1 x 100 mg B6 tablet per day/minimum, and that usually does the trick. I also get stuck into the "Sopa de Ajo" "garlic soup" and do a lot of steaming over a bowl of hot water, with some Olbas Oil in it, or "Karvol" and that always kills off a lot of the filthy virus, and clears out the sinuses brilliantly. Also, for the ears, I always use "EAREX" drops (UK) for my ears, and it works every time. Try it you'll see.
Saludos .......Santiago

hey...i am feeling a wee better. i went to the same doc i saw a month ago and he swears i have farangitis...some throat annoyance and has given me some antibiotics this time. if it is not gone when they are i am going to the othrnoslqyrgeisoien doctor of Max or Castiza.
my kill the virus soup is... chicken stock...cubes or canned. 6 o 7 crushed whole garlic cloves (teeth or toes depending on where you are from 5 or 6 birds eye chilis..firey hot! juice of one lemon. some lemon wedges a bit of soy sauce a few drops of sesame oil.
let it boil furiously for a while, 20 minutes, till the flavors are infused...then sip all day from a big mug! you get stinky, but it really helps, and it is yummy too.
thanks again! and that mm'er out there who offered to bring me oranges...thank you so much! that meant alot to me during my achy-ness.

Candy-- Where do you buy the chilis? I've been looking for a source closeby...
Hope you feel better soon... My remedy is pots and pots of black tea with cloves, ginger slices, cinnamon sticks and cardamom--all of which are reputed to have antibacterial properties. In any case, they taste good and the tea gives a nice buzz. Hibiscus flower tea with cloves and honey is good, too...

Here in Lavapies there are lots of Arabic shops that sell the chilis...but my favorite is....
Al Zahra. This shop has exotic spices and foodstuffs galorecurry pastes, chutneys, bags of tandoori spice, coconut milk, lotus root in cans, spicy pickled mango, hot pepper powders, basmati rice and much more. Owner Sali and brother Sadir are super-friendly, and able to help you find just the right spice.
