not sure if this is true or not (got it in an e-mail today) but it is worth watching out for...

the town hall of madrid is going crazy fining people on the "castellana". they have mounted a fixed radar camara on lamp post #423.
the speed limit there is 50 Km./hour but it is very easy to do over 90 since it is an entry point into madrid from the highway. if they catch you going over 80 Km./hour, you will get a huge fine and will have your license taken away.
this lamp post is located at the "raimundo saporta" "real madrid" basketball pavilion (entrance to madrid from the "ciudad deportiva del real madrid).
if anyone is unclear on what a "fixed radar camara" is, it is the type that takes a photo of your license plate (and car) speeding and sends the sanction (ticket and whatever) to your home
I pass by there a lot with my little "roadster" and believe me, if you are doing 90 there, its because you want to , and not accidentally because its the entry into the city from the highway. At that point, the traffic is usually sooo congested that you will be lucky if you can get up the limit of 50 kph!!
me begeth to differ, i do that leg often as well but during off hours where there is not much traffic as i am heading to pza. castilla from the airport and it is very easy to not realize you are doing 90.
guess it all depends on whether not you are one of those little old lady drivers

Yes, but jer... the traffic fines are for those who are driving cars at 90 kph...it doesnt mention those who are riding the METRO!!!
