Walking in madrid at night - Topic Powered by eve community

I an sure this is not the first time safety has been talked about and some people will probably recognise what I'm saying. Nevertheless, I see with such depressing regularity one problem I feel I've got to try and warn those who don't know Madrid.
The problem is something like this..youngish guys are out for a few, and late at night try to walk home in the Gran Via vicinity, usually a bit drunk and less vigilant. Their walk home gets interrupted by gangs jumping them at knifepoint...

I am beginning to lose count of how many times I've seen guys who've had this one.I can only advise strongly.. if you are out drinking in this part of town.. get a taxi home. It'll only cost an extra beer or two. Madrid is not especially dangerous in my view and there's no need to be paranoic, but sometimes sensible precautions are needed like anywhere. Walking late at night alone in this part of town seems to be very dodgy.

Hey EURO, thanks for the heads-up on that one.

I have been in that area plenty late at night but never alone.

Another pretty dangerous area after 2pm and alone is the Plaza de Tirso de Molina
