hi Lucien, thanks for thinking of all of us here in madrid during this very trying morning.

yes, me and all those i personally know are ok.

i woke up early to head off to the airport to greet a client and ended up wathing the disaster on the news from 8:30am until i had to open my office at 11:30am.

all very horrible, there are no words.

i will take advantage of this thread to let people know that there will be an anti-eta protest and moments of silence for today's victims in the puerta del sol tomorrow (friday, march 12th) at 7:00pm.

i will be there with ena and i encourage anyone who can to go as well.

if you want to (or can) find us, we will be on (or near) the corner of puerta del sol and calle mayor (in front of the "mallorquina" pastry shop) at about 6:45pm.

saludos,
jer...

I would like to second the gesture. We have a concentracion now at 12 in front of the school.

Hope everyone is okay.

Also, please try and detach a while from the media as too much can be mind boggling.

I wonder if we'll ever know what ETA hoped to achieve by attacking people traveling to school and work during the busiest time of day. I've been through Atocha at that time of the morning hundreds of times. They couldn't have picked a worse time to do this. They wanted to inflict maximum casualties. There are no words to explain the collective ire that these cowardly acts have produced. We'll definitely be voting this Sunday.

I've telephoned my teachers who live in Madrid city and they're both Okay. It would be nice to know that other multimadridian friends living in the city are okay. Please post here or elsewhere on the board letting us know that you're okay.

For those of you who dont have access to a TV or are not too good with Spanish, the BBC is running a live feed from their news service BBC News 24 over the web. You can access it via the main BBC news website(RealPlayer required).

Hi guys,

Terrible watching Spanish TV today. I live near Puerta de Toledo and have been hearing the sirens all morning. A friend of mine lives just off Avda Cuidad de Barcelona which runs parallel to the rail line. She was woken up by the bombs going off and her building shaking! She is quite upset but physically unhurt.

It's probable that this is the work of ETA, although it is strange that the worst terrorist attack in Spanish history occurs on 6 months to the day after the 9/11 annviversary.

Just food for thought.

My thoughts are with the friends and families.

Mark.

Hi Jer.
Devastated to have watched the terrible news from Madrid this morning. No words can say how very sad we feel that this happened. We feel so far away and yet so close to our favourite city. We were there only weeks ago and will pray for everyone concerned.

Hi Everyone,

The United States woke up to this horrible news this morning. I have visited Madrid and its a beautiful city, with wonderful people that will rally and soon recover from this.

Our hearts and prayers are with you all!

Please take care.

We are shocked by this senseless act of barbarism and brutality, and send our prayers and thoughts to the Spanish people.

Im safe. Im still a bit worried about my three best friends here in Madrid. They live very close to Santa Eugenia and havent answered my phone call yet. Ill try again after lunch. I REALLY doubt they were on a train at that hour. There was a big scare in my Bustamante foro because one of the women we all know couldnt find her husband for nearly 4 hours. Luckily she finally got hold of him and hes just had a few minor injuries.

I would love to go tomorrow but I have to work.

Hi,

Since I've spend most part of this morning pouring my heart out writing a post only to get an: "FYI you have requested a topic that does not exist!" message :-( ? when I went to actually post it; I'll just second Jer's words; there really are no words to express the sadness, pain, disgust and outrage....

My thoughts are also with everyone there in Madrid. I am still waiting to hear from a good friend of mine that lives in Getafe, so if he had to go into Madrid this morning he would go through Atocha.

So senseless...
