I would like to visit Caceres, Merida, Trujillo and Zafra by bus. I saw other postings of people doing this route by bus, but I can't find out what bus companies cover this route. Can anyone help?

G'day from Australia. The bus company you're looking for is AutoRes. They leave from Conde de Casal.

If you're watching your pennies, compare the prices of different departure time; some are 'luxury' buses with just three seats across instead of four and they cost more accordingly.

How's that for an answer from 16,000 kilometres away???

Just came home from dinner at the local boating club. I had a margarita for dessert, and dearly missed the rocket fuel margaritas that I used to get at A Todo Mexico in Calle San Bernadino.

Hi to everyone who I ever had a margarita with in Madrid.

I just read back on my post, and realized that my keyboard and I must be equally drunk... I couldn't find a single typo..

Cheers,
Steve (and Maria!!!)

Out of Madrid it will be AutoRes like Steve says (hi there!) but once you are there you might have to rely on local bus companies that go from town to town within the region. The best thing you can do is when you arrive at the bus station at your first destination ask which is the company that can take you to your next destination and then go to their ticket window and get a schedule or buy your ticket already. Keep that up all around, the bus stations themselves are the best source of info. Have a good trip.

THanks for your response. But I'm kinda the overprepared type. And for me to plan this whole trip, it would make me very anxious just dropping into a town and then try to figure out how to get to the next one who knows when. Is there any way to determine what are the local bus companies that follow this route or something like that?
Thanks

You might be able to determine what the companies are ahead of time, but you probably won't be able to buy all of the tickets online in advance. In addition to auto-res, I believe Alsa and Leda serve some of those routes and there might be other interurbanos within Extremadura. Also Renfe (the train) goes between all of them, I think.

If you look for my book Moon Handbooks Spain, I give info on each of the bus companies serving those towns. Just hit a local Borders, they are stocked there.

And if you really want to be overprepared, you are looking at serious disappointment in Spain. Even when you get information from a bus company or tour agency, it can often change randomly or be plain wrong. Going with the flow and expecting the unexpected is your best bet here.

Thanks Candela for suggesting the Moon book on Spain. I didn't have this and it has great info on Extremadura and the bus situation.
