Understand that from early next month, the new Terminal 4 will be operating at Madrid airport.
British Airways says that from 5th February all their flights will operate from Terminal 4 and not Terminal 1.

Does anyone know how this will affect travelling particularly transferring between Terminals and getting to the city? Also, which Airlines will use the new Terminal 4 and how are the current ones being reorganised?

hey Nige, good topic idea.

well, i have been using http://www.aena.es for my info.

click HERE for the barajas page.

click HERE for the english version.

the "Airlines" link takes you to THIS PAGE where (if updated well), you can see what airlines operate and where.

i say "if updated well" since right now, british airways is still listed as operating out of terminal 1 (T1).

let's see if they get their act together on feb. 5th when that is supposed to change and update the site.

there is also a cool and useful interactive map at http://www.aena.es/cartografia/recinto.jsp?poi=&t=&p=&id=24 that i hope they also update when the new terminal opens (only viewable in mie).

saludos,
jer...

Big question is.... Is it accessible?

From what I've heard, getting to Terminal 4 is a difficult proposition with bus routes not yet figured out, no Metro stop, and far from Terminal 1 and 2.

I'm sure the taxis will be happy to pick up the slack.

between t4 and the t4 sattelite there will be a tram and they say it will take 4 minutes to get between the 2.

as for the transportation from t1, t2 and t3 to t4 main building, they are playing top secret about it and have told me that they have no information about that and will not until the new terminal opens.

"typically spanish" as they say roll eyes

i imagine they will simply either add t4 as a stop on the free "bus tránsito" (transit bus) route that already exists between terminals 1, 2 and 3 or they may just add an extra separate bus that goes between them all since t4 is far from the rest.

So if you want to get to T4/T4S from downtown you have to get the Metro to T2, get to the bus stop, queue and wait for a bus to drive you there. Thats forward planning :/ Three cheers for AENA!

I already knew Barajas was designed by Stevie Wonder but I didn't know they signed up Ray Charles also. cry

Whens the new T4 Metro stop going to be opened? 2012?

I think the bus service is from Barajas station, I assume it´s just a long walk from T2 metro stop!!

yep!

http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2006/02/02/madrid/1138884268.html

article is in spanish but basically, it says that starting saturday (tomorrow), bus 201 will leave from barajas pueblo and and number 204 from avenida de américa, both will go to t4.

also, the bus from cibeles to t4 is apparently still a possibility but starting in april this year.

see http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2006/01/24/madrid/1138120293.html if you reasd spanish.

and, to get from one terminal to another, the lanzadera busses will connect all 4 terminals. they come every 3 minutes (according to aena) and take only a few minutes to complete their route.

so, complete bus list from the city/burbs to the airport...

- line 101 from canillejas - goes to t1, t2, t3.
- line 200 from avda. de américa - goes to t1, t2, t3.
- line 204 from avda. de américa - goes to t4.
- line interurbana 822 from coslada - goes to t1, t2, t3.
- servicio especial (special service bus) from metro barajas - goes to t4.

metro still only goes to t2 but they plan to extend it to t4 as well.

saludos,
