Prices in Sept. for Iberia will be around 5/600 dollars. Prices yes, can fluxuate and if you know when you're going... and see a good price, yes jump on it!

As for if the price goes down later... you call the airline back and ask for a down grade. As long as its not a sale fare (they don't usually permit down grades for sales) then the conditions are the following: the price has to be available on the plane you were scheduled to be on, the same day and the same fare class- if these requirements are met then you get the difference of the two fares back! Smiler (Some insider information- I work for an airline!) So, like I said, they could say no, but its worth asking as if you don't ask you'll never know!

Unfortunately for me I'm still a couple of months from knowing exactly when I can plan to get my ticket home! Red Face So I'm waiting patiently.. hopefully it'll be when I can still get a decent price and not break the bank! Especially since the Euro is so high and I'll be getting less for my savings, oh well! Big Grin

Hola everyone!

I'm trying to find a rather cheap ticket to Madrid leaving in August. I've been scowering the airfare websites but can't really make any progress. I was wondering if anyone knows of any gem websites that could help me out. Thanks!

Mike,

I got my ticket through AESU TRAVEL and they gave me an excellent deal on a one way ticket from Richmond, VA. Try them and please let us know of your progress.

Hi again,

I tried aesu and they came up sour. Going to Madrid was around 800 and to london about 650. 650 + the change is about 800. Maybe I just missed the prime time for bargains.

Redwood-
Isn't that for teachers and students? Or can you still get a bargain fare being a non-student/teacher?

Espe3,

I didn't have to show anything saying that I was either a teacher or a student. They have fares for students and teachers who want to travel Europe and I think that with those you have to show some form of ID. I just told them the dates that I wanted to leave and they didn't ask me for a thing.

Mike, please don't give up hope. Something will come up for you. You have to have patience and all will work out for the best.

Mike, if I can hop in here for a moment...

$800 r/t for a flight to Spain in August from the east coast is about the best you will do...and is a rather decent price... that is if there are any seats left, particularly at this late date.

I remember when my mother was booking their flights last summer, in late May/early June they were getting quotes of $1200 r/t per person from Philadelphia.

I wouldnt bargain shop too much more as you are looking for a seat in prime travel season and there arent too many bargains at this time. That good old law of Supply and Demand...

Good luck!

Mike, I agree with Chica, if that $800 was for a round trip ticket, buy it!

If you wait too long you will end up paying more as prices are not likely to come down until after the summer.

Thanks for the posts guys,

I can't shell out 800$ as I'm going to be living on a tight budget while in Madrid doing the MBA. I know there are tickets out there that agencies buy up and sell at lower prices. I went last summer and the price was a good 200$ less than iberia.com The trouble is I have to find those agencies. There used to be one in my neighborhood but the skipped town with everyone's money! <Sigh>

Actually the place had two owners. Under each owner the concept was the same. They bought the tickets and sold them cheaper. The first owner died and someone else took over. The second owner took everyone's money and went back to Galicia. It's pretty funny actually because there's an international manhunt on for this elderly Galician guy. If you want to read up on it, plug into google "Plus Ultra Tours". It's as close to espionage Queens, NY can get I think.

Go to a travel agency (anyone) and ask them to contact Greaves Travel for you and see what prices they give you. They deal mostly with british airways- but they get some insanely low prices in comparison to what you'd ragularly pay- its worth trying!

Redwood- Good to know! I'm debating if I should go ahead and purchase my ticket for september or not- considering I still have a good month and a half before I get word from the consulate. I don't want to wait too long... but then again, I don't want to get it thinking everything will be settled and then lose the money of the ticket because I can't fly then!

Maybe I'll get my fam in spain to check the prices of a ticket in sept and buy it from there- that way I'll have a little flexibility with the dates... but then again, with the exchange rate- I'm going to be screwed anyway! Red Face What's a girl to do?!?!?!??!

Hey guys, just a heads up, I did a little searching for everyone and www.orbitz.com is having a sale on flights to Europe thru USAir, it's right on the left when you open the page, and click on USAir deals to Europe and there are some to Madrid $630 etc, and to other parts of Europe, latest travel August 31st.

Also www.travelocity.com if you put in New York to Madrid and then leave the dates as flexible has many flights for $400 and up depending on when you're travelling.

www.studentuniverse.com is very cheap, amapola told me about it and we both got tickets for end of august or beginning of sept, one way, which is usually more expensive, for $260-360 ish , which is GREAT! But for that one you do have to have an email address that ends in .edu, to prove that you are faculty or a student somewhere, and an ISIC card.

Good luck with tickets everyone! Besos, Joy

I just saw this on ba.com (I think the price is from JFK to London..just a quick flight to Madrid from there!

It's time to book your summer holiday. British Airways is offering great summer fares to London and the rest of Europe starting at just $259* (o/w based on r/t purchase). Simply choose your dates and your destination and you'll be well on your way to a fantastic summer holiday.

Plus, we're also offering great prices on Central London hotels from as little as $49** (pp/pn based on double occupancy).

Book online and save an additional $20 off your airfare. But do hurry, offers end June 12, 2003.
