If anyone does decide to take this low price fair to London and then look for a cheap flight from London to Madrid the cheapest flights that you will probably be able to find are likely to be with Easyjet. They fly from Gatwick and Luton (both London airports that have conections with Heathrow by bus) and you can normally get a one way flight for about 30 plus taxes for a single fair, and sometimes cheaper than this depending on days and times etc. Although it is a great price and a 2 and a half hour flight London to Madrid isn't that long I thought I would just warn people what to expect from a 'budget airline', referring to another thread where you were dicussing different airline companies. Well on Easyjet you don't get an allocated seat number; you give in your boarding pass at the gate and then go and find a seat on the plane. There is no in flight entertainment but I don't think anyone would expect that flying London to Madrid. For people who don't like the fact that you have to pay for alcoholic drinks on some flights anymore, you have to pay for ALL drinks on EasyJet and there is no meal, although you can also by snacks on board. I fly with EasyJet all the time to get back to England and with such cheap fairs I don't mind but I just thought I would warm anyone who is thinking of taking this option along with that BA flight, it can be a bit of a shock the first time if it isn't what you're used to.

Fordhammike, I see you are really just searching for a bargain so I assume you are willing to put up with a little more hassle if need be than spend the money on convenience, so if you keep looking for some bargains to Europe from the states here are a few very good bargain sights for in Europe flights. It means the hassle of multi bookings, etc., but getting there affordably IS what counts, right? Try checking with these regularly- www.airberlin.com www.bmibaby.com (hey, they have recently posted fares from england to spain for as low as 53 euros) wwweasyjet.com(london to Barcelona $81, all tax & fees included) www.germanwings.com wwwmytravelLite.com www.hix.com www.ryanair.com www.virginexpress.com (Brussels to Madrid $136.64 includes tax and fees)find a new york to one of those for around $200.00 or so and you have your bargain.

correction, www.my travelLite.com (the major hub is birmingham, England and no great deals direct to Madrid regular you could go to amsterdam say for $77.80 Includes all cost & wait for the right connect deal. This is probably the means I will be forced to resort to when I return, Madrid is worth it)

Mike, I am seeing airline tickets go up substantially, even from DC, NY and PA. I know that there are low fares to Madrid, but you will have to do some serious digging and looking for them. Have you tried BEST FARES? I joined them last year and they had awesome fares to Europe. You have to get a ticket now for September. I think that they are worth looking into. They booked up fast, so now is the time to do some investigating. Leave no stone unturned. Shawn

Hey, thanks a lot everyone for helping me look for a flight. It seems that buying tickets now for August is a little too late. All the stop over cities that were mentioned are running prices of about 600 from New York. The transfer price to Madrid is about 100$. I might as well shell out the 800 with Iberia to go. My only question now is, when is the ideal time to buy a ticket for an october trip? (only 1 way needed). Thanks, Michael

Mike, I would guess that it should be safe to buy it in September, when prices start going down because the high season in Europe is over. If anyone knows more about this, please comment. I know that money is an issue, as it is with me and that you want the best deal. Keep a look out and make sure that you continue responding to this thread and checking on it because we all have advice to give. Airline prices are creeping back up, slowly but surely due to the fact that airlines can feel that they can get greedy again because travel has picked up some. Shawn

Oficially- the peak season ends in September- but actually- to see real fare decreases- its october. The exact dates depends on the airlines. I second the recommendation of keep checking fares and when you see one you're happy with, buy it. Depending on the dates you're planning to go in oct. you'll be able to purchase something decent maybe in august but surely sept. As for one ways- for the most part they are generally more expensive, there are a few ways around this. Ask for a return (round trip) fare- and then also for a one way on the date you want to leave on. For the round trip make sure you have a sat. night stay in there. If the RT trip is cheaper, buy it and ditch the last half- but make sure you call the airline to cancel (let them sell the seat to someone else- but some of the airlines are getting smart and charging a no show fee on top of your ticket price for the inconvenience of having the seat blocked until your travel date! ![[Embarassed]](redface.gif) ) More for one- ways, earlier in the thread Redwood posted a site AESU that has EXCELLENT one way fares!

Espe3, AESU Travel was a bit expensive for Mike. He said that he will try other avenues. I wish him luck in his search. Shawn

Hi there! If I buy a roundtrip fare and call to cancel the return part, does the airline refund the amount of the second half? I didn't think they did. Mike

Mike, I would get my information right from the source and ask either a travel agent or someone from the airline. That information should be on airline websites. Good luck in your search and please let us know about your findings. Shawn

Fordahammike- I work for an airline.. there are certain fares to which you could get a partial refund on- but those are usually the full fares (even economy will be about 2000 or more!) Business and First class. If you're getting an inexpensive fare- you're not going to get the partial refund. However, if you get one of those inexpensive rt fares- who cares about loosing $200?! (ESPECIALLY if you're saving $600! ) Redwood- I'm leaving from the east coast- the one way was a little over $300 So I'll take it! Mike you're leaving from NY right?!
