I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to serve as a community 'low-fare notice' spot for any multimadridian to use when finding a phenomenally low air fare involving that city we all know and love.......MADRID!!!
Here's the way I suggest we do this (additional suggestions are of course welcome!) If you find an insanely low, reasonable round trip air fare to Madrid, post it here to this thread so other members of the board can benefit from it! Your post should ideally include some important helpful information:
The Price, (duh! )
The airline,
Flight dates (window of validity),
Airline &
(most importantly) a copy of the ENTIRE URL where you find the price at... (a URL, or 'Universal Resource Locater' is the internet address 'e.g.http://www.website.com...etc.' where somebody else could locate the offer)
I hope this could turn into a cool information sharing place where we all benefit from one anothers' vigilance. Happy bargain hunting!!

Just in case this is helpful. Easyjet is probably the best 'no frills' airline in UK. They fly from UK to Madrid from London (Gatwick), London (Luton) and Liverpool. Fares can be very reasonable especially if you buy your ticket well in advance. Also the website is very efficient and you can call up various options for dates of travel and work out the optimum deal.
For example, I just asked it for flights to/from Gatwick to Madrid in March and one of the best was:
OUTWARD: Wednesday 05 March, flight 823 departs London Gatwick at 12:55, arrives Madrid at 16:20 web fare 20.90 GBP
RETURN Wednesday 12 March, flight 824 departs Madrid at 16:55, arrives London Gatwick at 18:25 web fare 15.90 GBP
TOTAL for return trip = UK POUNDS 36.80 or about Euros 58
That's reasonable isn't it !!!! (bear in mind that the fares can change depending on the number of passengers booking. The nearer the departure date, then the more people are likely to want to fly and fares will rise)
Hi Nige, all, well, fares are so cheap ex U.K. right now, how long this will last who knows, only today saw article in newspaper, proposing increases. So, avoiding peak periods (eg Xmas, New Year), how about these?
http://www.bmibaby.com (East Midlands/Alicante, take the train or hire a car for Madrid). In January, after the holiday period, 10 per person, each way.
http://www.ryanair.com (New service ex London/Stansted from February 2003, to Gerona Last time I looked, ridiculous, exceedingly cheap offers.)
http://www.go-fly.com (London/Stansted to Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao and other destinations, now about 25 per person, each way, did have sale, finished Thursday last, but fares from 13.85 per person each way)
http://aireuropa.com (London/Gatwick/Madrid, found fares for 65 per person return)
The above, just examples, have to take into account that some airlines charge more in airport taxes, passenger insurance etc., than others. For example a "free flight", may not be free, once taxes + suchlike added.
Also if in transit between airports in London, or anywhere else for that matter UK, it really is sooo expensive, public transport. So an idea maybe, look at http://www.gobycoach.com for example bus fares between airports, or for the trains http://www.qjump.co.uk
Well, I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere and I haven't seen it, but anyhow, I'm interested in how people feel about flying to Madrid, via London or UK. Is it viewed as expensive, maybe dull? I'd be interested to know. Just curious.

Booklady, I know that in August this past year they had deals for $300 something (less than 350!) You may want to start looking around the end of summer. If you try to get them too early they're expensive too! Do you leave from Orlando or Jax? That will help and I'll keep my eyes open!

Ok everybody, I just reserved a ticket for Madrid through Travelocity. I've been checking them out for WEEKS and have seen the fares go up and down, and be pretty stagnent... after checking the various possibilities, and most of the dates being filled... I have been keeping a close eye on Continental. They seem to offer the most reasonable prices... I just got my ticket for $482.20 (the fare is listed at $404. then add taxes and fees.) not SUPER, but not bad either ! I'm getting 2nd day delivery (e-tickets not an option for this flight) so my grand total is a mear $502 from Jacksonville!) For those of you living in more travel friendly cities, I'm sure you can get better deals!

I also booked tickets to Spain for around that price. I got mine from Iberia's website (yes, I've heard the horror stories. But my experience with them has never been bad...knock on wood). The price including tax round trip Chicago to Madrid in March was about $450. In my mind, anything below $500 is good.
I arrive 14 weeks from today. But who's counting????

This is a good thread. I've had good luck with the Iberia web site, www.iberia.es Every Wednesday or Thursday, they post last minute specials that work out for good long weekends. I've gotten flights to Stockholm at the beginning of September for about 180 Euros, round trips to Turin for about 171. I've just booked a round trip to San Francisco in January for a total of 411 Euros (taxes included). I also second the recommendation for EasyJet, www.easyjet.com. I spent Thanksgiving in London since I was able to get a round trip out of Madrid to London/Luton for about 80 Euros. It's no frills, and you could wind up stranded at Luton if you arrive too late in the evening, but definitely a bargain.
What great news! That is a great price from Jacksonville. How many hours is your flight?
I will look aroung August again. I can leave from either Jacksonville or Orlando. I usually go Orlando, because I've found better deals if I fly from there. Please do let me know if you happen to see something! You are the nicest!
By the way, if you want to get together before you leave let me know I go to Jacksonville just about every weekend, I go to UNF to study! We can have a "multimadrid" get together! I think you and I are the only two that live in this area.
Saludos, Carmen

Flight hours: From Jax to mad, I have to stop in Newark and switch. Its a total of 9 hours flying time (4 hour layover)
On the way back I have an extra flight, Madrid-Lisbon-Newark-finally jax. So its a bit longer... but being so late in the game... and that there are less flights than there used to be, still not too bad. Total of 11 hours flight time, and a total of 3 hours layovers combined for both stops.
So, not too bad.
Will do on the update if I see any good deals. We can def. meet up, but it will have to be upon return, because right now things are crazy! UNF isn't far from me, so that's easy!

Hey ladies, a get together over there in the name of multimadrid sounds great but I would prefer it be here in Madrid with me, ena and anyone else who is up for it. Too bad your trips don't coincide
Maybe next time.
Hey espe3, too bad you could not swing a 12 hour layover in Lisbon, would have been
Jejej! Jer, I'll give you a call when I'm in Madrid! (not long now! ) As far as Lisbon, I used to live there... although I haven't been back in awhile, when I move to Spain, I'll def. go for a real visit!
As for our Mini Multimadrid get together... well, poor Booklady in Palatka, there's pretty much NOTHING there! And even less of anything Spanish!
We'll all be able to get together next year when she visits (and hopefully by then I'll have moved and setteled in! )
