Hola gente,
Some friends of mine want to do the Camino on bikes. They are looking for places where they can rent bicycles. We tried Decathalon but at no avail.

Does anyone know some rental shops?

Thanks,

Miguel

hi Miguel, try...
____________________________________________________

1) www.bravobike.com

rent a bike page at www.bravobike.com/rent_bike_eng.asp

10-15/day depending on the duration of the rental, seems reasonable to me.

they even have an organized camino de santiago bike tour at www.bravobike.com/tours_camino_santiago_eng.asp (a bit steep on the price though Eeker ).

2) www.madridbiketours.com

no rental page i can see but i am sure they offer the rental service only, you may want to contact them.

if they are renting for 15 or more days, they may want to buy bikes and then try to sell them when they leave (i might be interested in buying them myself). a 15 day rental would run 150 Euros and for a bit more they could buy bikes.

i got some nice and pretty inexpensive bikes for ena and myself at BICICLETAS OTERO here in madrid on calle segovia.

i know you are busy with your studies but please come back and let us knwo how it goes if your friends end up renting bikes in spain.

saludos,
jer...

Everyone,

The suggested sites were not used for renting the bikes because the group is too large and the sites did not have sufficient cycles. However, I have been told of two other rental places; Bicimania and OcioCiclos. Bikes there cost around 15 Euros a day.

I am no longer doing the Camino so I don't know how the service is for those two places.

hi Mike, sorry I never saw this topic before...I am leaving for Madrid tomorrow to do the Camino de Santiago by bike...some of our friends are renting bikes (although as jer mentioned for 269 euros you can buy a bike at Otero to do the trail). They found a place in Santiago that they will place the rented bike anywhere you want it on the trail and you return it in Santiago. I can`t tell you off hand the name of the place, but if you are still in need of this information I can probably get it for you today so let me know....Deciding whether to take my bike or rent or buy has been the most difficult part of putting the trip together! I have decided to buy one because you also have to take into consideration what the airlines charge to transport your bike. Good luck and if I can help you please let me know....
Jer, Eeker I checked out the site you posted for organized tours...maybe I am in the wrong busines...if you organize it yourself you can do it for a LOT less...
