hi guys, once again i am calling on your collective wisdom! i am surprised that granada is not better connected by trains it's an important town, isn't it? certainly, it's a popular tourist destination! it seems that the only way to move westward to some towns is by bus (we won't have a car). how is the bus system? we want to go to costa de la luz from granada. i did find a WEBSITE for BUSES in Andalucia but it's sort of general. how long would it take by bus to, say, cadiz?
gracias!

There are several trains a day from Granada to Sevilla. Take one of those trains, get off and Dos Hermanas, then catch a train coming from Sevilla headed to Cadiz. I'm pressed for time, otherwise I could show you the schedule. Maybe someone else could help here.

thanks a lot Paul! no problem about the schedule, the renfe site is very good and i think i am very close to being able to recite it (at least all direct routes) by heart by this point :lo: !

Don't take the train, it is too roundabout and as Paul said, you have to change
Vika, keep in mind that Granada is well connected via train... with Madrid. Not too well connected to Cdiz due to the way the rails were set up WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY back when.
Take a bus, there are just under 300 KM between Granada and Cdiz (capitals). A bus should take less than 4 hours with a short stop or 2 to stretch your legs.
See the page HERE at that andalucia.com website for bus times (surely you already did but confirm all bus times when you hit Granada as the ones on that site may be old and not updated often).

now! how would i EVER know this information if it wasn't for this AWESOME board??? thanks! jer, i just stumbled upon the site of the main bus company Alsina Graells that serves Andalucia (there are some cute disembodied heads floating about the home page) I just looked at the bus from granada to cdiz and it takes FIVE hours?? isn't it a bit too long? jer, i hope you are right about 4 hours is there another bus company? (i really hope so!)

Sorry 2 dissapoint u, but to get around in andalucia you will have 2 get the busses from Alsina Graells. They have the biggest hold on the market. As 2 your 'somewhat' question about Granada being badly connected being an important city; here we go...... the problem with Granada in basicly envy. The other main cities, which also happen 2 be the ones with the most power to make things happen, found that Granada had enough attractive for people to go anyway without a good infrastructure. When you go from almeria to malaga via the costal highway, you will notice that in the province of Granada there is no highway, just like between the coast and Granada capital. The are finishing a new build highway this year....but as always...to late. Granada has culture (eg. Alhambra) costa and Ski resort...so the other cities tend to be jealous of this beautifull city.
Hey serge, great info on that "Granada Envy" phenomenon
True, and in addition, if ya think about it, the original rail network here was not set up for tourism but was set up well before tourism was the main industry in Spain. So, if somebody lives in Granada, why on earth would they want to go to Cdiz :jeje: :jeje:
Saludos, jer... (who also envies those who get to loive in Granada )
Just on the point about ALSINA GRAELLS having a strong position in Andalucia. On the west side of Andalucia they are hardly seen. The bus companies that I have frequently seen, or used, are :
TRANSPORTE GENERALES COMES - mainly around Cadiz province. But where is the website for them ??
GRUPO LINESUR - around Sevilla and they do Sevilla/Jerez/Algeciras route AND they have a website! www.linesur.com
LOS AMARILLOS - Sevilla to places like Sanlucar and Chipiona and more. But where is the website?
DAMAS bus company - big to the west of Sevilla (HUELVA) AND they have a website!! www.damas-sa.es
and I am certain there are more....

It is not uncommon for Spanish companies (even big ones) to be VERY behind in their technology and overall in their web presence. They have a loooooong way to go to catch up to many other countries.
That COMES bus website has been 'under construction' for ages.
About 2 months ago I picked up some bus timetables at SEVILLA Santa Justa station Tourist counter. I have scanned them and just in case they may be useful, have listed the destinations below. Obviously, as the Tourist office say: We do not take any responsibility for any changes that may occur !!!!
