I'm taking the AVE from Madrid to Seville and am interested in knowing if anyone's sat in the "preferente" or "club" level - they are akin to business/first classes I'm assuming? Well, in any event, I'd like to know if it's worth the extra 30 euros each way to ride in preferente instead of tourist class. Can anyone shed some insight? What does preferente have that tourist doesn't (larger seats, bar, tv?)

Thanx!

hey boom_shaka.

please do a SEARCH on "preferente", "clase preferente" or "preferential class".

you will see a thread entitled "RENFE long distance. Tourist -vs- Preferential class!" that you MUST read.

it is about RENFE in general and not the AVE but you can apply what you read there to the AVE as well.

i think you can safely assume that if it is not worth the extra euros on an 8 hour ride, it is most likely not worth it on a 2.5 hour ride.

saludos,

If you are paying for the ticket yourself, and not your company/employer, go in Turista class. In Preferente, you get a meal service with drinks and newspapers, and the seats are marginally wider (three seats across vs. four across in Turista), but it's not worth the extra euros if you are on any kind of budget.

Hi,

The preferente is really nice. After being screwed over by socibus(my friend and i bought bus tickets from seville to madrid, only to find that the person who printed the tickets neglected to make our return date different from our departure date, meaning we would have had to arrive in madrid, and then get on a bus the same second to go back to seville. bottom line, that person needs a new brain) we had no other choice but to take the ave, and as there were no turista seats left, we had to go preferente. when u get these tickets, u are entitled to wait in the preferente lounge, where there are free drinks, food, newspapers, the works. and on the train, you get a meal and drinks included. so, if this is worth the extra 30euros to u, it might be something of interest. otherwise, i'd say spend your money on other things in spain, but that's just my opinion. hope this helps.
