Hola a todos/todas

From the US, the prices are horrid. I need to be in Madrid by the first week of August to start my MA there and I cannot find anything under $700 USD. Off peak, I pay 350 USD.

Can anyone suggest an agencia or maybe some airlines known for good last-minute deals from NYC, Newark or Philadelphia?

Mi cartera y yo estaremos muy agradecidas!

hey Gata, flying cheaply from the u.s. to ANYWHERE in summertime is a huge task but the $547.00 price that Loli found may be the best deal you get.

another example of how the they must think all americans are rich. as you may know, a madrid-ny-madrid ticket does not normally go above $500 even in summer.

please keep us updated here on your search and let us know how it works out.

saludos,
jer...

You and me both. We want to come at the end of June and the prices are worse than they have ever been.

If I weren't traveling with a toddler, I would probably try AirHitch. I've heard good things about it, but you need to have some flexibility and a heightened ability to "roll with it." It's definitely worth a look if you need to fly on very short notice.

Also, British Airways offers tickets that are good for one year, so you might be able to at least use the return. We got a fairly good last minute ticket from them ($600) two summers ago.

Gracias a todos/todas...you guys have great leads BUT for the fact that I will come home for Christmas, meaning I need a round trip ticket. Cheapest roundtrip I have seen is $721. Im so confused cause my Grad school is saying it gets cheaper than that, but I have 3 pieces of luggage and cant do a flight where they only let on 1, like on most courier flights. I tried Student Universe and they offer the more expensive 880 Return ticket.

I will look for another week or so, cause its really 2 tickets i need to buy: one return August-December and then one more to come back after Christmas and leave in May!!!! Sigh. Yeah, who says Americans are rich? I am not!

www.ba.com are quoting the 720$ mark for a round trip at the moment. Have you thought of getting a cheaper ticket into UK and then taking one of the charter airlines out to mainland? OK it is a convoluted way of doing it but there are many, many cheap flights from UK to mainland Spain.

This would not help in your case, but Auto Europe has some great fly drive deals(I would not drive in Madrid myself, but for the brave heading out of town, maybe?) From Chicago(my nearest) with a seven day rental and cellphone(sorry Jer!) $677 http://www.autoeurope.com/showspecial.cfm?specid=159 Many other departure cities for those wanting a "quick Spain fix"

This won't yet help you for your August trip... but I just found a great deal on the Iberia US website. We got tickets for the end of June for under $500 each (hundreds of dollars cheaper than what I was finding on other sites).

Here's how I did it (this fare never showed up on any of the travel sites--you have to go through the iberia.com site to get it):

1. I went to iberia.com and selected "USA" from the dropdown menu on the left.
2. Clicked on "iberia.com recommends."
3. Clicked on "special offers."
4. Clicked on the "offers--spain" button for "USA - SPAIN Departures up to June 30, 2004"
5. Selected my city (DC) from the dropdowns on the bottom of the page.
6. I had to play around with the departure and return dates quite a bit to find open days. The system brings up these little calendars and lets you click on dates until you find open seats. It's a little confusing. Since we won't be using the return (unless we feel homesick--ha, not likely!), I just clicked every date until it let the ticket through (we're leaving on June 29th and pretending to return on August 11th).

Gata,

i am a poor grad student as well. However I am already here in Spain. I have been looking for a ticket home this summer as well as tickets for my buds to come visit me. Being that August is the peak season for air travel you may have a hard time finding tix under 500$. What I suggest you do is hit up some travel agents. Sometimes they buy tickets beforehand and sell them at the price of purchase, which is usually significantly less than the going market price on iberia.com or their #800.

Can anyone recomend an English speaking travel agent, we need to book flights home next year and the offical web sites (BA Luftansa Iberia) are all too expensive. I booked a flight though opodo.es and got a great price (1200 eruos for 2) but I screwed up the ordering somehow and it didn't grow through. I'm still gettting used to Spanish websites.

thanks
