Iberia is a dangerous, crappy airline. I am a recent traveller from Washington, DC who flew to Madrid. It was THE WORST experience I've ever had. I am trying to do everything I can now to make sure this airline goes out of business or loses as much American business as possible. It left me with a terrible impression of Spanish people...very rude, unhelpful and flat-out stupid at times. Some of the highlights of my trip: --Plane two hours late leaving without any explanation from anyone --Plane was old and overhead luggage racks kept opening during flight --seats were tight and uncomfortable --staff was rude --worst landing I've ever experienced...plane's wings nearly slammed on the runway as the plane tipped violently upon landing --my return flight was unnecessarily cancelled without explanation forcing me to buy a ticket on another airline to get home --my mother-in-law had a stroke on the plane and was left by Iberia staff for TWO HOURS at the arrival gate without any medical help!!
DO NOT FLY THIS AIRLINE...THERE IS A REASON WHY THEY'RE CHEAP!!
If anyone knows how to get in touch with Iberia management in the US, please email me at chsheridan2@hotmail.com.

i've flown iberia many times. within europe and also to the US. in fact, i am THRILLED this DC-MAD route has opened up, as i now have an option to get me home direct. i do know they were doing some promotions this summer for this new route.
Chris, perhaps you had a bad luck day. i think those kinds of things can happen with any airline and any flight. sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.
In my opinion they're not such a cheap Airline, I've flown Iberia many, many times from London into & out of Madrid, Barcelona, etc, and on many occasions have paid over £300 British pound for the ticket, but I have to say that the only real gripe that I have had with them is not being offered a Lousy cup of coffee, at the very least, after paying that much for the trip, and they still expect people to pay £2.00 for what is lousy coffee, but other than that, no real gripes with them before. I remember when suddenly they decided to stop serving food as part of the trip, and one woman on my flight (una Española) went almost ballistic with her demanding to be given something to eat, and flatly refused to pay for anything, I think eventually the Pilot just told them to give her a couple sandwiches just to shut her up, I too was a little perturbed by not getting at least a free coffee, but I knew that I just had to accept that that was the way they had decided to do business. For what it's worth, I don't think they are any worse than British Airways, or British Midland, or any of the others that I've used going between London Heathrow/Gatwick Airports and Madrid - Barajas and/or Barcelona, they all seem to be about the same kind of service to me. But for most of the last couple years or more I've almost exclusively been using Ryanair, between Santander & London Stansted, and from Zaragoza to Stansted when I'm staying in my place in Zaragoza, and for me Ryanair does a fairly good job, it's no thrills, no free coffee & sandwich, but, it's certainly worth it for the price, and I must say that I don't like some of the prices that I've seen posted by Iberia for trips between Barcelona & London, or Madrid & London, I've tickets listed as £475.00 GBP before, at peak times perhaps, but I don't know how Iberian can justify those kind of prices for a 105 minute flight, without even a half way decent cup o Coffee thrown in, (not that it's worth drinking anyway!!).
Cheers.

with all the low-cost airlines around, why you would fly iberia from u.k. to spain is beyond me
keep in mind that in general, the "official national airlines" (iberia for spain, ba for england, alitalia for italy, etc...) tend to be the most expensive.
there is no reason to pay so much more for a ticket.
Well at that time, when deciding to go with them, it was based purely on the fact that the availability of the filghts was getting very difficult for me and the particular time constraints that I had to work with at that time, and really needed to fly on certains days and at certain times that were in tune with what I needed to do, and so actually had not much choice at that time as I recall, it just happened to be that Iberia was the only one who could give me a flight which matched exactly what I needed, and so that is really the only reason why I had to pay so much, otherwise, of course I would have gone with another cheaper provider.
Saludos.
