hey Candice. the problem with your question... quote: what are the odds that this person will be severely interrogated and forced to purchase a return ticket or not let into the country?
... is that there is no real answer and it is most likely that board members do not want to say "don't worry about it!" and then eat their words when you end up not being allowed into the country. as far as actually being tossed out after overstaying one's 90 days, it is unlikely that this would happen to an american but having a one-way ticket is another story. saludos, jer...

by the way, if you read that entire schengen thread you will get a lot out of it. in the last post on the first page of that thread by "Rob in Madrid", you can see... quote: Just met a lady who moved to Spain with her son to begin a new life as a teacher. In flying over she bought a one way ticket was told without a visa they wouldn't let her fly. So she had to buy a round trip ticket (with refund for one way) and they allowed her to fly.
and on the second page at the bottom, "mariposita" wrote... quote: From what I understand, going back to the US won't make you legal... Once you first enter Spain, you are allowed to be here (and in any other Schengen country) for 90 days during the next six months. You can't restart the six months by leaving and coming back again. That said, if you enter Spain from the US with a round-trip ticket that has you going back to the US, they probably won't do anything about it.
she is right and it has been said many times on the forums. leaving spain (the schengen zone) and going back in the way you plan to do to morocco is not a valid move to "reset" your 90 days unless you stay out of the schengen zone for 3 months and then come back in. the law provides for a max. stay of 90 days within every 6 months (180 days) so while it can work, border jumping is not legit. as for the black thang most spaniards relate black people here to africa and not the u.s.a. and the africans here are almost all illegals (there are exceptions of course) so it can be a disadvantage. hope all of this helps. saludos, jer...
