Hey scot30, got a death wish have ya? Confused

Central Madrid in NOT a pleasure to scoot around, not like one of the Greek Isles (last place I rented a scooter was on "Santorini"). Loads of traffic and crazy Spanish drivers mixing with tourists whgo have rented cars and have no idea where they are or where they are going Eeker

I have never seen any scooter rental places here in Madrid but maybe someone else knows of some.

You do have a "moto" (motorcycle) license right? You will need one to rent a scooter over 50cc.

Saludos,
jer...

thanx for the reply jer.

have been in madrid for a couple of months now and have seen enough car accidents to think twice about hiring a scooter. maybe stick to the metro and buses after all :-)

cheers,

A wise decision my friend Big Grin

Also to have in mind is the very high level of scooter/motorcycle theft here in Madrid!!!

I have plenty of friends who have had their's stolen onle a few months or as little as a week after buying them Eeker

Long live public transportation Big Grin

Fellows, I want to thank both of you for this thread. My son has been after me to let him get a scooter in Salamanca, when he goes to study there.

When we were there last year he saw a lot of students riding these and thought they would be alot of fun. Eeker Frowner

Of course, now I can say, "See, See, read Jer's thread about scooters!"

Gracias,
Carmen

Hey Booklady, not to mention he would need to get his motorcycle license here if he wants anything over 50cc (which I am sure he would).

Wow!!! if I can add my two cents to this thread, I certainly have a different opinion on this matter.

Motorcycling in Madrid is just as safe/unsafe as any other big city where the motorcycles are not the main mode of transport.
I have lived here for about 2.5 years and have never had any accidents. In fact the only city where I've had an accident has been in Barcelona, which is one of the "moto-safe" cities...

If you know what you are doing, a motorbike its a great way to get around the city, plus it almost never rains here, it just gets to be pretty cold.
If you want to learn to ride a bike, Madrid is not the place. Lots of big streets, with 4-5 lanes, that are not forgiving.

For the price that Jer mentions, though, you can rent a car here: www.pepecar.com and its probably easier to read a map if you get lost. Oh, and Since I've been here my motorcycle has never been stolen and it gets pissed on at lot less than it did in Miami by the local pets

I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

Yes, I agree it has been quite a lame rainy month The same way it tends to get around sept/oct, but I wouldn't call Madrid a rainy city by any means...
