Happily returning to Spain after a year off. Yes.,.. so excited!!!! In preparing, might anyone know the time traveling from Madrid to Sevilla via car. Pros and Cons of car vs. Train travel would be greatly appreciated. Being pregnant, I'm not sure if train travel will work with smokers.

THanks
Debbie

Well, I haven't taken the train to Sevilla but I have driven there and it was a fairly easy and stress-free ride. It was in summer so I'm not sure what it would be like in winter.

They've been cracking down on smoking on the Metro and somewhat on the trains but I haven't been on the trains recently.

I took the AVE to Sevilla recently. It cost me about 120 roundtrip...though you should check RENFE for current prices. It was very comfortable and cars are now segregated into smoking/non-smoking.
Cheers

Thanks for the input! I continue to hear that the smoking situation has improved but there is no guarantee. Perhaps driving would be easiest. Hey.. afterall, I managed to make it to Granada successfully and what an increible ride it was.

Any idea on the total time via Car from Madrid to Sevilla.

Thanks again
Debbie

It's 540 odd kilometers (334 miles) from Madrid to Sevilla. If I remember correctly, it took me 7 hours to get there at a fairly leisurely pace. It was a pretty comfortable drive (in summer though) and that's coming from someone who doesn't like driving.

The drive between Madrid and Sevilla is an easy one especially if you don't have a time deadline. Just do pre-plan your route into Sevilla as the city can be confusing.

Wow 7 hours via car to Sevilla. I did not realize the travel was that long. It took us around 4.5 to reach Granada. Maybe I need to reconsider or visit something in between. Suggestions? Not sure if I'm going to handle that one pregnant.

So driving in Sevilla is a toughie. Ugh! One more complication with a husband who gets frustrated easily and does not speak Spanish. Let the fun begin!!!

Easiest solution is to drive and take breaks when something catches your eye - a ruined castle or a windmill ... a bodega or .... you get the idea Roll Eyes

Just plan out the route coming into Sevilla - from where you enter the city directly to your hostal or hotel. Do make sure that where you are staying has a car park -

If time is a concern, the AVE is 2.5 hours there. And the smoke-free cars, really are smoke-free. Plus they have train-hostesses to make sure everyone is comfortable. They do smoke in the bar car though, and there are no seats in there.

The last time we rode the AVE, they showed a movie. The ride was very quick and comfortable. Also, there was no smoking in the no smoking car.

I second the AVE. Quick, comfortable with an enjoyable view along the way.

I just took it on Monday to Seville. Excellent city!

Fordhammike-

You are the most recent traveler to Sevilla so I'd love to hear more about your trip. Did you purchase your ticks for the Ave ahead of time or just wing it the day of. IN addition, I know that this is off the topic but where did you stay? ANy info you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated

Gracias
Debbie

I would definitely recommend purchasing your tickets in advance. It also depends on when you are traveling. Semana Santa and Feria are almost always sold out for rooms and train tickets.

Whenever we travel, Paul has our tickets for train travel purchased in advance. Check the RENFE website here for more info.

Good luck,

Irene
