as I have to go back to Germany soon, I'm thinking about organizing how to get all my stuff to the airport.
Someone told me, that it's possible to check in at "Nuevos Ministerios". But I don't know if it's possible to check in there with every airline. There website doesn't help really. I'll fly with "Air Berlin", so if anybody knows if I can check-in at "Nuevos Ministerios" it would be great.
I'd also like to know if they have a luggage storing possibility at "Nuevos Ministerios", because propably I won't be able to carry all my stuff at one time, so I'll have to go their twice.
Thanks for your help, Kathrin

It isnt all airlines, but definitely does include Air Europa and Iberia. Basically its whatever desks you can see if you pay a visit.
Suggest either ask your airline/look at its web or try www.aena.es (Spanish airport authority) Stephen

Sorry, but unless things have changed very recently only Iberia, Air Europa and Spanair use Nuevos Ministerios... I am there quite often. Some lines codeshare and it may be possible then ( e.g. if you have a British Airways flight issued by Iberia you can use Nuevos Ministerios if you go to Heathrow, but not Gatwick), but unless you bought a ticket issued byone of these three lines youll have to use Barajas
I knew that when they launched the Nuevos Min. check-in service it was initially to be for Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa (the domestic Spanish airlines) but they did say that little by little other airlines would also offer check-in there.
I was just not sure when the other airlines (or which ones) would be offering this service as well.
EURO, maybe if you see any other airlines offering this in the future on one of your trips you can update us here???
Hey kinki, I do not know much about German airlines (never heard of any but lufthansa), but "Air Berlin" seems like a small one (correct me if I am wrong) and it will probably be a loooooong time (maybe even never) until those smaller airlines offer check-in at Muevos Ministerios.
If it is in your budget, you can take an Aerocity airport shuttle to Barajas ( www.aerocity.com ) and not have to lug all your stuff throught the Metro.
yeah you are right. "Air Berlin" is a small airline. But they are the most present airline at Palma de Mallorca. I had to change planes at Mallorca when I came here and actually I nearly only saw planes of "Air Berlin" there at the airport. And when I'll fly back, I'll again have to change planes in Mallorca, so it's more or less a national flight. And I thought maybe for that reason I could check-in at Nuevos Ministerios.
But maybe I'll jut call the airline and ask.
Thanks for the link to the airport shuttle service. But I'm afraid that's out of my budget. The price seems to be nearly the same as the price for a taxi, or am I wrong?

Hi Ill certainly let you know if any more lines have facilities there next time I go. Just a couple of other things potential users might want to know.. if you do check -in there it must be at least 2 hours before the flight or more (with Iberia up until 24 hours before). one or two people say they worry about their baggage arriving safely.. I cant be the one to say for 100% sure it will, but I can only say its always been fine when Ive used Nuevos Ministerios.. I dont know how well you know Madrid,Kinki but if you dont I can only say the metro connection to Barajas here is excellent.. fast(12 mins), luggage racks, lifts at the stations and most importantly.. same price as a normal Metro ticket. Have a good flight
Hey kinki, yes, when you are but 1 passenger, Aerocity can be nearly what a cab costs but the advantage to Aerocity is knowing exactly how much it will cost before you reserve instead of taking the chance of getting RIPPED OFF BY TAXI DRIVERS.
Yeah Serge, true about the cabs, as long as one reads my TAXI SMARTS page first
EURO, I am sure your updates WILL help many in the future.
this thing about taxi drivers is true. But not only in Spain, it's the same everywhere in the world.
The most impertinent taxi driver I ever met was in Costa Rica some years ago. We wanted to go to a bus station by taxi and the driver asked us, where we would like to go to by bus, and when we told him, he said that there were no buses going there today, because the street was destroyed because of too much rain. So he would recommend us to stay in a hotel he knows and we should leave the city the day after.
We did believe him, because we didn't think you could invent such a stoy and it really had rained a lot the days before, but nethertheless we wanted to go to the bus station.
The driver was pissed, but drove us there. At the station I asked about the destroyed streets and when there would be buses going again. The man there looked at me with an astonished face and told me, the next bus would leave in 10 minutes and the streets are ok.
Well, so now I know NEVER believe a word of a taxi driver!!!
I think I'll go to the airport by metro...

To anyone thinking of using this service, it has been temporarily suspended probably due to new security concerns after March 11.
It's a shame because I used the Nuevos Ministerios check-in a lot. I would go there in the evenings before early morning flights and get my boarding pass and save some time and hassle. I hope it's restored soon.
Sorry, should have posted this ages ago!!! This service has been restored for the Spanish airlines, and I tried to use it at the end of July! I was flying Spanair, and their check in desks were only open for a few hours in the morning, and then opening again at 1530 until 2000. I arrived at 1500, waited till they opened, only to be told that as my flight was that evening I should have gone straight to Barajas as there was not enough time to move my bag to the airport!!!
I still had plenty of time to get to the airport, so no problem, but you do have to pass out of the Metro to go to this check in area. So if you have bought a single journey Metro ticket, you do have to pay again to go on to the airport.
