Hey totx, killer topic buddy!
Well... that fare hike was a combination of the yearly normal hike and the "redondeo" (rounding off) due to the birth of the Euro.
I already changed the pricing info on my Madrid transportation page at
www.multimadrid.com/practical_info/mad_transports.htm but I think it was an unfair raise in the prices, a bit extreme if you ask me
However, the huge amount of improvements/extensions on the Metro lines over the past year have helped the city to "justified" the increase in its cost, I guess.
Personally, I walk just about everywhere and only use 1 or 2
10 TRIP TICKETS per month so it does not hit me as hard as those who may use 4 or 5 or the monthly "Bono Mensual" but I can see how it may upset more than one Madrileo
Hey, look on the bright side, it is still over 1 Euro cheaper than the Barcelona Metro and Ferrocarriles Vascongadas which are not as developed, efficient, clean nor helpful as our AMAZING Madrid Metro
Saludos,
jer...
p.d. As for "El Manzano", I think we all (native Madrileos and adopted ones alike) share your sentiments towards his royal highness our Mayor

- let's hope he does not continue much longer.
