We plan on interrupting our self-drive tour with 3 days in Morocco. We will turn in the car in Algeciras and get another later. Are there lockers in Algeciras when we can leave some of the extras from the car -- such as coffee pots, ice chest, etc. -- while we are in Morocco? Thank you.

hi DJC.

where will you last hotel/hostel be before your boat ride to tangiers?

asking because the bus station in algeciras has lockers when i was there years ago but...

1) they may not be big enough for an ice chest and other stuff.
2) the bus station in algeciras is shaaaaadyyyyyy and i'm not sure i would leave my worst enemy there much less my belongings Mad

it would be a FAR better idea to leave the stuff at the last hotel/hostel before the morocco leg of the trip.

they may hold it for free and if not, im sure they will if you offer a nominal fee.

also, another idea along the same lines would be to stay at a hotel/hostel down close to algeciras (or in it) the night before your trip to morocco and also reserve and stay the night you return to algeciras 3 days later. that would help to be able to leave your excess baggage with them, telling them you will return to stay there when you get back. in that case, they should do it for free and at worst they will charge you a small amt. of cash.

just some ideas.

by the way, not sure it is your thang but i stayed at THIS YOUTH HOSTEL just outside of algeciras when i was backpacking down there. they do have storage lockers (not tomention an amazing view of morocco and gibraltar Cool

and... apparently the passenger terminal at algeciras docks has left-luggage facilities. have never been personally but i found the info HERE. i imagine there would be quite a few left-luggage facilities at the docks.

so, all in all you have a few good options.

saludos,
jer...

Algericas bus or train station are bound to provide lockers.

I was in La Lnea (another dodgy town around the corner from Algerciras) last August and yes, they have lockers there. Yes, I left my rucksack in one whilst popping over to little England (Gibraltar Red Face ) and yes, my rucksack was still there when I went to retrieve it.

I think that would be the easiest option.

Reading reports about storing coffee pots and ice chests at Algeciras reminded me of the trip I want to do. The train from Ronda down to Algeciras ! I have stayed at the Reina Victoria Hotel at Ronda and would like to stay at the 'sister' hotel : Reina Cristina down near the port in Algeciras. What better way to do this than by the original reason both hotels were built - the railway !

The Reina Victoria up in Ronda does have the best cliff top setting - in my opinion- with nice grounds and sensible location.
But I don't know what the Reina Cristina is like ! According to this article in http://www.andalucia.com/accounts/ronda.htm

Once, the Reina Cristina's 20 acres of subtropical grounds overlooked a sandy beach and sea beyond; today, that view is marred by a sports stadium and the cranes and cables of a working commercial port. But on a clear day, you can still gaze out on the Rock and Pillars of Hercules and imagine you are transported back to the first decade of 1900 when garrison officers and their wives and wealthy passengers disembarking from P&O cruise liners en route to India and the Far East would enjoy the hotel's regular Saturday evening dances in its specially sprung ballroom.

The pictures of the hotel in it's heyday look wonderful - http://www.reinacristina.com/esp/historia.htm

According to the price list on the hotel's web site, the tariff stopped at the end of October 2002.......maybe there is nobody around their any longer except the ghosts of yesteryear and the orchestra playing away in that ballroom ?

Does anyone know ?

I hadn't thought about a train station or an airport. Our last night before Morocco will be in Seville. We will stop in Jerez de la Frontera to see the Andalusian horses at 11. (Thurdsay). We are taking a late ferry to Morocco and the night train to Marrakesh. Thanks for the tips.

hey Nige, sounds a bit too much like "the shining" to me Mad Eeker Wink

DJC, i think that instead of going out of your way to hit the train/bus station for lockers, you would be better off using the lockers at the ferry terminal, much more convenient.
