Yep, very exciting indeed. The service starts June 2, and they are running a $699 "special" right now (but it only allows you a 30-day stay in Spain).
I have a flight back to the States with Iberia on June 23, and was originally going through Chicago, and they actually changed it themselves to the Mad-DC direct flight!
From what binx said, I just put two and two together. It seems that Iberia is changing everyone to the direct flights to DC to give it the appearance that people are using the flight. Way to go Iberia. I have never flown them, but this does help out a lot of people.

DO NOT FLY IBERIA!! SERIOUSLY! I WAS LURED IN BY THEIR CHEAP TICKET FROM DC TO MADRID. IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD! SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
--Plane two hours late leaving without any explanation from anyone --Plane was old and overhead luggage racks kept opening during flight --seats were tight and uncomfortable --staff was rude --worst landing I've ever experienced...plane's wings nearly slammed on the runway as the plane tipped violently upon landing --my return flight was unnecessarily cancelled without explanation forcing me to buy a ticket on another airline to get home --my mother-in-law had a stroke on the plane and was left by Iberia staff for TWO HOURS at the arrival gate without any medical help!!
DO NOT FLY THIS AIRLINE...THERE IS A REASON WHY THEY'RE CHEAP!!
If anyone knows how to get in touch with Iberia management in the US, please email me at chsheridan2@hotmail.com.
