help* i'm coming to spain in a mere 10 days. i will first be hiking 'El Camino' before settling into madrid to attempt living/working...How can I get from Madrid to Roncesvalles? I'm assuming I'll have to take a bus, but from which bus station. I've been doing some online searches, but to no avail. I've decided to enlist the help of an expert.
Thanks*melissa

Hey melissa, "expert" is an overstatement, we are just a fun bunch who all love Spain and between us all we know a bit about it.

The Spain bus info is here on my site at http://www.multimadrid.com/practical_info/mad_transports.htm in case ya missed it. Info on getting around Spain specifically by bus can be found at http://www.multimadrid.com/practical_info/transportation.htm#travellingout Smiler

Your bus would leave from the Chamart{in train station (most trains North do).

You may want to call the station to see which bus company can take you to Roncesvalles but I am pretty sure you need to go to Pamplona or San Sebastian and get a bus from there.

Saludos,
jer...

Hey again, I really need to correct my post above.

Melissa , for some reason I got in my head that you were taking the train to Ronvcesvalles and was on that track (no pun intended Big Grin ) when I told you it would leave from Chamartn.

I guess my mind is on vacation just like my body here at the beach and I have been even more successful at "disconnecting" as I had hoped Smiler

Ok, so, the bus will leave from Estacin Sur de Autobuses (South Bus Station) which is the main bus station in Madrid.

Saludos,
jer...

Hi Jer!.

If she needs to go to Pamplona, she should take the bus (ContinentalAuto) at Avenida de America, shouldn't she? Confused When I take the bus to San Sebastian or to Pamplona I take it in Avenida de America, but now, I see that maybe in Mendez Alvaro there are buses of the same company to Pamplona too. Confused

Ah!. I've just seen in their site that the Mendez Alvaro buses of ContinentalAuto go jus to Almuecar, Granada and Motril. So, you should take it at Avenida de America.

You'll find the schedule of all the buses at their homepage (you can find it at Jer's site). Big Grin There are 3 trips daily and 6 on Fridays and Sundays.

Well, Once you are in Pamplona you should go to Roncesvalles. The road is called N-135 (national 135) and There are about 47 kilometres between Pamplona and Roncesvalles. I don't know which bus company you must take. Maybe "La Roncalesa" but I'm not sure. I have found this 2 emails.
Tourist office of Roncesvalles: oit.roncesvalles@cfnavarra.es
Tourist office of Pamplona: oit.pamplona@cfnavarra.es

Write them and ask them for the bus from Pamplona (Irua) to Roncesvalles.

Suerte!

umm. i'm just a bit confused...do i have the option of taking a train or bus direct to Roncesvalles from Madrid? I was under the impression that i had to go to Pamplona first. Of course, if i can bypass that and go directly there, that's what i'm looking for...does this clarify things?

thanks*melissa

Hi.

I've been looking at www.renfe.es and I'vent seen anything. It seems that there is no train station in Roncesvalles. I encourage you to post an email to the tourism office to ask them how you can reach Roncesvalles from Madrid.
Here you are a map with all the northern trains in Spain (cercanas). I can see no train going to Roncesvalles (that is in the north-east of Pamplona).
Northern Trains is Spain (cercanias)
