Again, I agree. If you're visiting Asturias and only seeing Gijon and Oviedo, you aren't really visiting Asturias. Other than the Romanesque churches, Oviedo doesn't offer a great deal. I'd see the villages.

I doubt if I will have time to see much of the countryside this trip. I am going to visit a good friend so some of my time will be spent with her and her relatives. She has only been in Gijon three weeks so we both will be tourists. I plan to return twice before years end so what I miss now I can catch later.

How far is the train station from "The Old District"?

Are there good restaurants in the district or should I venture somewhere else? I only plan to be in Oviedo for a day trip to see the basics and eat. If I enjoy Oviedo I can always return another day.

The train station is right in the center. About a ten or fifteen minute walk to the cathedral.
